Planning:
Adequate planning is the first and the most
critical element of rigging down activities. By
anticipating and taking steps to prevent
potential hazards to health and safety, work
at a rigging down site can proceed with
minimum risk to workers and the public.

13/11/2017 2
The organizational structure
should identify the personnel needed
for the overall operation, establish the
chain-of-command, and specify the
overall responsibilities of each
employee.

13/11/2017 3
Organization:
An organizational structure
that supports the overall
objectives of the project
should be developed in the
first stage of planning.
This structure should:
Identify a leader who has the
authority to direct all activities.
Identify the other personnel
needed for the project, and assign
their general functions and
responsibilities.

Organizational
Safety

13/11/2017 5
Organizational Safety:
A Site Safety Plan, which establishes
policies and procedures to protect
workers and the public from the potential
hazards posed by the rigging down, must be
developed before site activities proceed.

13/11/2017 6
The Site Safety Plan must provide
measures to minimize accidents and
injuries that may occur during normal
daily activities or during adverse
conditions such as hot or cold weather.

13/11/2017 7
Development of a Site Safety Plan
should involve both the offsite and onsite
management and be reviewed by
occupational and industrial health and
safety experts, physicians, chemists, or
other appropriate personnel.

Equipment
Shipment and
Security

Equipment Shipment:
Due to the size and weight of heavy equipment,
special shipping considerations will likely be
required. The shipment of equipment, cranes,
forklifts, or other large industrial equipment may
potentially require a certain carrier that
specializes in heavy equipment.

13/11/2017 10
Tips on shipping heavy equipment:
The first and most crucial step in shipping heavy
equipment is to have accurate dimensions and
weight. This information helps to determine what
type of truck will be needed and what class your
freight will fall into.

PREPARING EQUIPMENT:
Before the carrier service arrives, you will
need to take the necessary steps in order
to ensure your equipment is protected and
secure for any unfavorable conditions it
may come across during its shipment.
