Do you know???
 114 elements

 92 elements-naturally occurring

 22 elements-do not occur naturally

Classification
Arrangements of elements with their physical
and chemical properties.
“For the first time I saw a medley of haphazard
facts fall into line and order. All the jumbles
and recipes and hotchpotch of the inorganic
chemistry of my boyhood seemed to fit
themselves into the scheme before my eyes — as
though one were standing beside a jungle and it
suddenly transformed itself into a Dutch
garden.”

History
 1817 – Johann Dobereiner
 1863 – John Newlands
 1862-A.E.Beguyer de Chancourtois
 1869 – Lothar Mayer
Mendeleev periodic table
 Law states that "Physical and chemical properties
of elements are periodic functions of their atomic
Weights” in 1869.
The Big Task
 To identify the pattern of various elements in order
to classify
 Noted the facts on individual paper cards
 Tedious process
 Organize all information of every element to decipher
the pattern
 Finally, noticed the pattern of element is in increasing
order of atomic mass
 Also observed that bonding power change in orderly way
Features

 Horizontal Rows- Periods

 Vertical Columns-Groups
 Elements in same group show chemically similar
characters
Merits of Mendeleev’s Periodic
Classification

 Classification- was the 1st to include all the

elements
 Prediction of new elements-The properties of
missing elements was predicted
 Occasionally ignored the order suggested by the
atomic weights
Demerits of Mendeleev’s Periodic
Classification
 Position of Hydrogen
 Position of Isotopes
 Anomalous pairs of elements
Modern Periodic table
 Henry Moseley discovered that atomic number, is
the most fundamental property of an element and
not its atomic mass.
 The Modern Periodic Law states “The chemical
and physical properties of elements are a periodic
function of their atomic numbers”.
Features
 Groups-18
 Periods-7
 The chemical and physical properties of the
elements can be studied easily.
 Position of metals and non-metals can be know.
Significance of Periodic table
 A help in the understanding of the physical and
chemical properties of many elements
 It is a guide to chemical prediction and theory
 Several periodic variations and correlations can be
predicted by using the periodic table
 It is also used to determine the formula for
compound.
Periodic table of Basic Human
Traits
 Out of the 114 periodic table elements 92 naturally
occur and only 22 don't occur naturally. Maybe in
the periodic table of traits it will be 92 born traits
and 22 will be those that can be learned
traits…………
Are Leaders Born or Made???
…..Situations make them but there is something in
the DNA of a few that clicks faster than others.
 Some of the basic metals become stronger if
blended with some others
e.g. Steel/stainless steel etc..nickel, cadmium,
molybdenum make Iron stronger
………the basic DNA is just a starter..we need
to blend a little more into this to get it perfect
for situation
Learnings
 Organization
 Perseverance
 Innovation
 possibilities are limitless
……Impossible is just a big word thrown around by
small men who find it easier to live the world
they’ve been given than to explore the power they
have to change it
