Independent Study Mentorship (ISM), is designed for students wishing to

teacher-facilitator, each student will create a unique plan of study and receive
individual instruction. Students leave the high school campus and go to the

Students in this course must perform at a collegiate or professional level.

Research
First I will need to look up the definition of depression.
Next I will look up the statistic of depression in pediatric oncology patients.
Then I will define and psychosocial support and why it is important that it be available for
patients
I will then research the stages of grief
Then I will look and research the different activities that Texas Childrens offers for their
patients and also look up the different treatment supports used.
Also I will look up how the Chaplin help supports the family.
I will then define Psychology and psychiatry and state why they are important.
Product
For my product I will have a video demonstration of why it is important that patients have
different activities to prevent depression and why it is important to keep them busy. My
goals to accomplish this is:
1. Interview different nurses (3-4) regarding why they think it is important that they help
prevent depression in oncology patients. By mid-November
2. Ask what they feel medically is the best way to prevent depression and why. By mid-
October.
3. Next, I will include a calendar that has all the different activities for the kids during the
month of December, and will include that in my final product. By November 27th.
4. Edit my final video for final presentation. By November 27.
Conclusion
During my mentorship I hope to learn more about Texas Children's Hospital
and about their hopes and prevention of overcoming depression in pediatric
oncology patients.
