 What is science ?
Science is the study of the physical and natural world through observations and
experiments. Science is all around us, its process of creating the air we breathe, the food we
enjoy, water we drink, and clothes we wear are all based in science.
 Why we teach science to young children

Science starting in pre-school and continuing daily straight through high school.

- The reasons of teaching science :

o Students today will be of use to them as they pursue a career through the twenty-first century.
o Its important for students to learn for life in the years to come.
o Learn them to solve the new problems they could face.
 National science education standards
o Designed for supporting the development of a scientific literate society. And the contents of
standards help identify what children at different ages and stages should know and be able to do in
the areas of science.

Science as inquiry

Science and technology
Science and personal and social perspectives
History and nature of science
 Science Process Skills
o Basic process skills
Observing : Using sense to gather information about
object or events.
Comparing : The similarities and differences in real
object. A primary students begin to compare and
contrast ideas.
Classifying : Sorting according to properties such as
size, shapes, and color.
Measuring : Quantitative descriptions made by an
observer.
Communicating : communicating ideas, direction, and
descriptions written from pictures, maps, graph, or
journals so other can to understand what you mean.
o Intermediate Process Skills
Inferring : Based on observations but suggests more.
Predicting : making reasonable guesses or estimations
based on observation and prior knowledge and
experiences.
o Advanced Process Skills
Hypothesizing : devising a statement, based on
observations, that can be tested by experiment.
Defining and controlling variables : determining which
variables in an investigation should be studied or should
be controlled to conduct a controlled experiment.
