This document describes several press breaker plays for a basketball team. It outlines setups and options for triangle, square, and line press breaks involving 5 offensive players labeled O1 through O5. The plays are designed to get the ball passed into the frontcourt quickly and set up opportunities for a fast break.

Start with a 3-up triangle as seen in diagram A. O5
deep down the floor. O1 and O2 start at the elbows and split as seen in the diagram, while O3 sprints right up the middle looking for the pass from O4.
Try to get the ball to O3 first. If O3 gets ball, O1 and
O2 immediately cut up the sidelines for a quick pass from O3... and now we are off to the races and should be able to attack for a lay-up. TRIANGLE
If ball goes to O1 or O2 in corners, set up another triangle.
O1 / O2 have the option of getting the ball to 3 coming across, to O2 coming across, or back to O4. TRIANGLE
If ball reversed back to inbounder
(O4), set up another triangle O4 should have the option of hitting O2 heading up the sidelines, or O1 cutting across after he makes the pass. SQUARE PRESS BREAK SQUARE
Setup: The guards O1 and O2 start at the
elbows, and post players O4 and O5 start at half-court, wide. O1 and O2 turn and sprint wide and deep, with O2 sprinting all the way to the basket. O1 sprints up the right sideline, but upon reaching half-court, will turn and sprint back to the ball, to the middle near the arc. O4 and O5 sprint up from their half-court spots for the inbounds- sprint to the 3- point arc area, and not the elbows, for good spacing. SQUARE
After receiving the inbounds pass, O4 (or
O5) passes O1 in the middle (diagram B), and usually O1 can speed-dribble up the court and break the press from here. Sometimes O1 will be open for the inbounds pass from O3 (diagram C), if O4 and O5 are not open, but O1 really has to cut hard and fast to get to that spot in the middle. After making the inbounds pass, O3 should stay below the ball for a safety pass back if O1 is not open for the pass (diagram B). Very rarely will O2 be open on the sprint down court. Use this option sparingly. LINE PRESS BREAK SQUARE
Setup: Line up at the depth of the free
throw line If facing a zone press one of outside players should get open. If full-court man-to-man, outside players to break down the court as shown in the diagram below. If ball not immediately thrown to one of the outside players, 1 and 2 set screen for each other trying to get open SQUARE
If the ball goes to 1 or 2, rest of the team
should get in their press breaker triangles and work the ball down the court. If it's man-to-man, everyone should clear out and run down the court so the guard can bring the ball up. If ball thrown outside, Player 2 should cut and run down the court looking for the ball. Player 3 should maintain spacing and cut a split second after Player 1 begins to run down the court. SQUARE
Once the ball is passed to Player 2 or 3
and they could not dribble up the court, the other players should get in their normal press breaking positions
