Unethical Problem in

Biodiversity
Illegal activities in forest sector
Deforestation
Course a big part of the habitat loss issue since forests are homes to thousands and thousands of
animal & plant species.
Rainforests are complex ecosystems which sustain numerous relationships of all types of life
forms between each other. Losing rainforests means losing this incredible wealth that the nature
has endowed us with.
The advent of new technologies, explosions in population numbers and a seemingly insatiable
human demand for natural resources have accelerated the process of tropical deforestation and
certainly led to high levels of biodiversity loss in different parts of the world.
Humans Mindset
Most of the people only view themselves as being separate from or above nature.
This perspective is expressed clearly through examining the international endangered species
trade, which is one of the main large scale causes of biodiversity loss
The philosophical basis for protecting species and ecosystems is critical, but even if one does not
consider the moral roots for preserving nature to be sufficient, it is imperative that species are
protected from a practical, environmental perspective.
The biological consequences of not curbing mass extinctions are vast; when one species goes
extinct, the entire ecosystem, or web of life, is weakened.
Ethically, all creatures have unique fundamental value. Environmentally, each species is essential
in maintaining the integrity of ecosystems.
Overexploitation of Wild Animals
Among the most commonly overexploited species or groups of species are marine fish and
invertebrates, trees, and animals hunted for meat.
Wild animals, especially those inhabiting rainforests, are exploited for pet trade, bush meat trade,
for their furs and body parts and for biomedical research.
For instance, Orang-utans - among the most endangered animal species on Earth - have fallen
victim to such humans actions as well as. Not only is their habitat being consistently destroyed,
orang-utans are also illegally traded as pets to satisfy the whims of the unaware public.
Invasive Alien Species
Is a major cause of extinction, especially on islands and in freshwater habitats, and they continue
to be a problem in many areas.
Species which are taken from one habitat and introduced into another (i.e. alien species) often
end up exterminating some native species that were present there before.
A very good example of that is an infamous extinction of the dodo - a bird native to the island of
Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.
Historians claim that many alien species, ex. dogs, pigs, cats and Macaques that were introduced
to the island by humans plundered the dodo nests thus causing dodo populations to collapse and
ultimately become extinct.
Genetic Modification
Genetic Modification of living organisms which has unfortunately been gaining more traction
presents a real danger to biodiversity as no one can really predict how genetically-modified
species will behave and what sorts of (negative) effects they will have on other, organic (i.e. non-
modified) organisms.
Bioprospecting & Biopiracy are some other highly controversial issues.
Some authors have recently coined a new term Geodiversity
"The natural range (diversity) of geological (rocks, minerals, fossils), geomorphological
(landforms, processes) and soil features. It includes their assemblages, relationships,
properties, interpretations and systems.
It is clear that "without the variation in topography, physical processes and geological materials,
there would be much less biodiversity" and that geodiversity degradation can ultimately lead to
biodiversity loss as well.
Do and Donts to taking care
biodiversity and overcome
unethical problem involve.
Do
Do finding alternatives to land-use change and habitat destruction: For instance, we must find
alternatives to fulfil the needs met by slash-and-burn agriculture, which is highly destructive of primary
forest, and for other activities which degrade forests. The needs of farmers and extractors must be met
without destroying habitat and other resources in the forest.
Do habitat and ecosystem restoration: Partially-logged areas can be allowed to reforest, and
abandoned farms and pastures may be revegetated in some cases where damage to the soil is not too
great and there is some natural habitat in the vicinity. In addition to restoring ecosystems, revegetation
can also aid in carbon sequestration since growing plants absorb large quantities of carbon dioxide.
Do grow your own fresh herbs and vegetables. Local Farmers Markets and local growers are great
options as well. Dont resort to eating canned or heavily processed foods.
Choose healthier and eco-friendly materials for home improvement projects, such as natural paints
and non-synthetic flooring in the form of wood, bamboo or wool carpet.
Do support local community that taking care our biodiversity.
Use 5R (reduce, reuse, recycle, respect and renew)
Dont
Dont only think about ourselves but also think about our surrounding especially our Earth.
Dont change and discriminate our nature for money. A company would harm the environment to
whatever extent was profitable, and they often harmed the environment despite the fact that it
was unwarranted to do so.
Dont throw our waste to river or animal habitat place.
Dont just overlook when there is a problem involving our biodiversity instead try to solve it or can
contact our local law enforcer.
Dont ever tolerate with work or act that only can destroy our biodiversity.
