Effects of Rap Music on Society

Rap music has numerous effects on
society as a whole. One affect that
most people wouldnt expect is
crime. According to the graph,
overall crime and violent crime have
both substantially decreased with
the rise of rap music. Starting in
1991, crime began its extreme
decline and hasnt gone back up
since then. Rap music began to rise
in 1991 and skyrocketed from there.
This horizontal graph shows the
popularity of music genres from
1960-2010. From 1960-1980, hip-
hop rap wasnt even popular. Hip-
hop rap music didnt get become
mainstream until 1990. Rappers
in this decade were Notorious
BIG, Dr. Dre, Outkast, Nas, Ice
Cube, and Eminem. Looking
forward in the graph to 2020, I
would say rap music is still
considered one of the most
popular music genres.

rappers. Every artist pictured
had some kind of influence and
contribution to what it has
become. Bigger faces in the
middle are Tupac __ and
Notorious BIG, two of the most
highly praised hip-hop legends.
