The Oregon Institute of
Technology
Founded in 1947
Main campus in Klamath Falls
Public School
Small Classrooms
20:1 Student/Faculty ratio
Motto:
Hands-on education for real-world
achievement (Oregon Institute of Technology, 2017)
Technologies in Practice
Instructional Strategies
Students use specific technologies that
apply directly to their profession after
graduation
Example: Ultrasound Lab
Learning Technologies
Tools/Resources developed expressly for
educational purposes
Example: Anatomy and physiology models
Scenarios
Scenario Strengths
Foresight: creating a range of possible futures
Open mind to unimaginable possibilities and
challenge old ways of thinking
Better prepared to handle new or unforseen
situations as they arise
Improves communication and coordination
between participant
Variability in ways to form scenarios based on
the situation

Scenario Weaknesses
Very time consuming
Participant dependent
Deep understanding and knowlege of the field is
neccessary for success
It is difficult to not focus on the most obvious
scenarios or "wished-for" ones

(Mietzner, & Reger,2005)

Educational Trends
Virtual Reality Learning
Todays students are visual learners and learn
best through visual sources
YouTube, TV shows, movies, and media clips
Collaborative Learning
Allows students to learn from each other and
their peers regardless of physical location.
Economic Trends
Healthcare Reform
Educators must be up-to-date on the current
status of the United States healthcare reform
and keep their students apprised of these
changes and how it will impact them.
Workforce Age-Gap
In the U.S. people are living longer and having
fewer children.
Increased need for skilled workers to fill the
gaps left in the American workforce by retiring
individuals
(Minton-Eversole, 2012)
Demographic Trends
Student Diversity
O.I.T. must meet needs of students from all races and
backgrounds because, as a higher education
institute, it is molding students for their future in a
diverse nation
