PUBLIC LAW 94-142

The Public law 94-142 is The Education for All Handicapped Children Act. This act was
passed in 1975 and it guaranteed a free public education to each and every child with a
disability. This law had a positive impact on disabled students because it made sure that
every child, no matter how unique the needs, would always receive the education they
needed.
I.D.E.A INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES
EDUCATION ACT
In 1990 the public law 94-142 Education for All Handicapped Children Act was revised
and is now known as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). IDEA governs
how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education, and related
service to more than 6.5 million eligible children and youth that have disabilities.
IEP

A IEP stands for individualized education program. A IEP is a legal document that goes
over a childs learning needs and what and how the school will provide this help to the
child. The IEP will also go over how the progress will be measure for the children to see
if the program is meeting the childs needs. During the IEP the review team will consist
of the parent, a general education teacher, a special education teacher, a school district
representative, a school psychologist or specialist, and the child.
JOHN F. MILLER

John F. Miller is a special education school within CCSD that serves the most significantly
disabled and medically fragile students in clack county school district. The students at this
school can range from 3 years old to 21 years old. They take pride in their school motto
being All Children Can Learn.
HELEN J. STEWART

Helen J. Stewart is a special education school that serves children between the ages of 6
years old to 22 years old. At Helen J. Stewart they embrace the vision that all students
can develop the skills necessary to become successful members of our community. At
this specific school they use comprehensive Community Based Instruction to help form
the skills the students need. At this school students are able to get specialized instruction
ranging from daily living, functional academics, commination, behavioral needs, and also
transitional needs.
MILEY ACHIEVEMENT CENTER

Miley Achievement Center is a special school that servicing students between the ages of
3 years old to 21 years old. At this specific school their main focus is on students who
have been affected by emotional and behavioral disorders. There mission is to make sure
that all students who have emotional disturbances will benefit from their educations
academically, socially and vocationally by receiving direct instruction and community
experience. Students receive placement at the Miley Achievement Center from IEPs.
VARIETY

Variety is a school that provides individualized and multifaceted program for students
that are 6 to 21 years old. Students that attend Variety will participate in a full academic
and vocational program that includes motivational behavioral management system. They
strive to motivate children to become life long learners.
HOMEBOUND

Homebound instructional services provides instruction to general and special education


students who are ill or injured and unable to attend school. Services are provided for a
minimum of 15 consecutive school days. Teachers travel to students residences and
provide one-on-one instruction for elementary students and those with specialized
educational needs as determined through their IEP. General education students, grades 6
thru 12, receive direct instruction via Distance Education utilizing Saba-Centra
(interactive computer), independent study, and compass learning.
LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT

A least restrictive environment is when a child with a learning disability is not restricted
to where they can learn. A child with a disability need to be educated with children who
are not disabled. Students who have disabilities should not be removed from regular
setting classrooms if they do not have to.
