I.D.E.A. Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act

a four-part (A-D) piece of American legislation that ensures students with


a disability are provided with Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)
that is tailored to their individual needs.
I.E.P.

the IEP is a document that is developed for each public school child who
needs special education. The IEP is created through a team effort,
reviewed periodically.
You as the parent, one general education teacher, a specials education
teacher, a district representative, an expert and a translator.

services for students with specialized needs, ages 3-22 years.

Helen J. Stewart School provides students with learning activities to


develop daily living, vocational, communication, social, and functional
academic skills
Miley Achievement Center

Miley Achievement Center is a special school, servicing students from 3-21


years of age.
Placement at Miley is instrumented through the Individualized Educational
Plan (IEP). The focus is to prepare students for lifes journey by providing
them a sound academic program, social skill instruction, self-management
and responsibility training
standard curriculum encompasses the arts, music, technology, counseling,
foreign language, community service, vocational internships and college
prep classes.
Variety

a group associated with the hotels and clubs in Las Vegas decided to
establish an in-state school. A charter was obtained in October of 1950
from Variety Clubs International, a nationally-known nonprofit organization.
when the school opened in 1952, operation was ceded to the State of
Nevada. Variety Club agreed to pay operational costs until state and
federal funding was secured.
The school was integrated into the Clark County School District (CCSD) in
1953
HOMEBOUND

Homebound is a Instructional Services provides instruction to general and


special education students who are ill or injured and unable to attend
school.
Homebound employs both full-time teachers and teachers who are under
contract to teach at a CCSD school during the day and provide services
to Homebound students after duty hours.
General education students, grades 6 thru 12, receive direct instruction via
Distance Education utilizing Saba-Centra (interactive computer),
independent study, and Compass Learning.
Least Restrictive Environment

Least Restrictive Environment means that a student who has a disability


should have the opportunity to be educated with non-disabled peers, to
the greatest extent appropriate.
LRE is one of the six principles that govern the education of students with
disabilities and other special needs. By law, schools are required to
provide a (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment that is appropriate to
the individual student's needs.
