ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Its never one person who makes a thesis happen, but a series of people
contributing their part to the whole.
First I would like to thanks my guide Ar. S.R. Agarwal for his continuous
support in the thesis program. He was always there to listen and to give
advice. He taught me how to express my ideas and tailored them to
express in my design as I wanted. He taught me different ways to approach
a research problem and need to be persistent to accomplish any goal. His
valuable Suggestions were a great help. He was always there to meet and
talk about my ideas, to proof read and mark up my papers and to ask me
good questions to help me think through my problems without him the
completion of thesis can not be possible.
I am grateful to Ar. Rajit Arya and thesis coordinator Ar. Manvendra Pratap
Singh.
I owe special debt to my brother (Er. Kanhaiya Kumar Singh),father (Dr.
R.P.Singh), mother (Bhagirathi Singh) and my little angle Zeeva Singh & His
mother Manisha singh without whom this thesis wouldnt have been
possible. They were my greatest inspiration, motivation and support
throughout my academic career and this project.
I would also like to express my gratitude to various persons without
whose help ,this thesis would not have been possible. All the experience
that I shall relate in the following pages would not have been possible
without them.
Least but not the last I thank to my friends: Vibhash kumar tiwari and Ankit
anand.
Though words hardly express the true emotions, still I would like to
thanks all my near and deat ones who helped and guided me.

1. INTRODUCTION

A hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging on a short-term

basis. The provision of basic accommodation, in times past, consisting only
of a room with a bed, a cupboard, a small table and a washstand has
largely been replaced by rooms with modern facilities, including en-suite
bathrooms and air conditioning or climate control. Additional common
features found in hotel rooms are a telephone, alarm clock, a television,
and Internet connectivity; snack foods and drinks may be supplied in a
mini-bar, and facilities for making hot drinks. Larger hotels may provide a
number of additional guest facilities such as a restaurant, a swimming pool
or childcare, and have conference and social function services.

Star rating:
Star ratings symbolize the level of service, range of facilities and quality of
guest care. Hotels are required to meet progressively higher standards as
they move up the scale from One to Five Stars.

Types of Star Hotels:

One Star Category Hotels [Economy]
Two Star Category Hotels [Moderate]
Three Star Category Hotels [First Class]
Four Stars Category Hotels[Superior]

SITE PLAN

The basement is dedicated to car parking and staff office. The exit of
basement should be directly linked to main exit. The main lobby should be
easily accessible from the parking. The guest lifts as well as the service lifts
should be accessible from parking.
4.CASE STUDY
The basement is dedicated to the hotel services i.e. the mechanical as
well as the administrative services. All the administrative staff offices are in
the basement. The basement is not centrally air conditioned. It is catered
by the fresh air. The height of the corridors is 2100 and the room height is
2700. The service should be maintained properly and the placement
should be such that the main circulation and the service circulation does
not clash. The functions should be placed on priority basis.
The basement has only one entry and that too is situated at one end
of the basement. This creates a problem for the visitors coming to the
administration as they have to travel through the long corridor,
distributing the other activities.
The service lift core is located right in the centre so that it can cater to
all the activities. Also the kitchen and the stores are located near the
service core which facilitates the circulation of raw material to various
kitchens since there is no main kitchen for all the restaurants.
The corridor is kota finished with gypsum false ceiling and smoke
detectors are 10 ft c/c.
The parking is not sufficient (26 cars) and also there are a lot of clash
points on the entry and the exit. The width of the aisle is less and the
space for vehicular circulation is not sufficient.
The size of the laundry is bigger than required according to
standards. Also it is situated near the lift core which helps in the
circulation.
Administration is placed such that the person visiting the place will be
lost and disturb other functions. Also it is placed near kitchen creating
hindrance and nuisance.
The Fire escape staircase is placed right next to the admin. Area at the
end of the basement. In case of fire, the staff would be craeting a
chaos situation.
4.CASE STUDY
The banquet hall can cater arround 200 people. The floor is carpet laid and
the walls are treated with fabric panelling to make sound proof. The hall can
be further divided into two or three halls as required.
The service corridor is provided at the rear side of the hotel. Thus there is no
clash in the guest and the staff movement. The corridor is accessible from
outside and linked with loading unloading platform.

The floor is dedicated to restaurants, banquet hall and the business center.
These are the most regularly used spaces and should be catered and
maintained well. The restaurants has contemporary interiors to add to the
ambience. The main circulation and services should not clash at any point.
The kitchen can cater the small needs of the banquet hall as well as the
bar. The kitchen is located along NE direction facilitating the temperature
control.
The Indian Restaurant (Made in India) is designed such that it attracts the
visitors. The show kitchen attracts most of the guests. The formal seating
boasts the business hotel ambience.
The bar is designed such that it has a formal seating combined with informal
seating area in the corridor which overlooks the lounge below creating a
casual atmosphere. The services are done from the Indian kitchen
4.CASE STUDY

The guestroom floors are the most important requirement of a hotel.

services provided on the guest floor are room service and the house
keeping. The lobby should be centrally located. Fire exit plans should be
displayed in all rooms and fire escape staircase should be properly
located. The best orientation for the guest floor is the placement of the
longer axis along the NS direction.
This is the first guest floor after the public facilities. The floor is just above the
ground floor. The total no. of rooms on this floor is 16. The floor is accessible
from the main lifts as well as the lift in banquet lobby.

8.DESIGN APPROACH

The Indian hotel industry has witnessed massive expansion over recent
past. Every hotel has unique selling proposition. It could be design, facilities,
location or food, but the most attractive of all in the design element. It is
their indri dualistic style of design be it simplistic or artistic that can be
appreciated by the travelers.

DESIGN CONCEPT:

The Design Concept of this hotel building is the coupling of rich

cultural heritage of Lucknow with access to modern facilities, Thus
enabling it to establishing its own unique identity in the region.
The hotel design would reflect the amalgamation of vision, idea and
conviction of the hotelier.

LANDSCAPE CHARACTER AND FUNCTION
Before going into detailed design of landscape areas the overall chara
cter has to be decided
upon so that various elements are knitted by coherent themes. In the cont
ext of site and
overall concept of development a concept of "URBANISATIC CAMOUFLAG
E" the
landscape character is also decided upon to go with the basic theme. R
egarding the functional
aspects, the areas left upon beyond the limits of human intervention are
as has to be provided
with an infrastructure facility for an eco system on a smaller scale. This ec
osystem provides a
tremendous resource of vegetation to be utilized as landscape material.
PLANT SELECTION CRITERIA
Climatic adaptability and hardness. Sol, water, sunshade requirement.
Plant typology.
Growth rate.
Size, form, color, texture, habit.
Insect disease resistance/ susceptibility.
Flower/ fruit characteristics.
Commercial availability and price.
Special significance, use, value.
Maintenance requirement/ problems
Ecological and environmental value.
Other functional values/ suitability.
LANDSCAPE AND ITS EFECT ON CLIMATE
Landscape can modify the effects of climate to a great extent. Plants vin
es and trees for shade
can be placed either on the surface of the building or at some distance a
way. Where the
deciduous variety is employed, nature provide the shade and takes it aw
ay at exactly the
appropriate season.
Deciduous trees provide shade in summer and allow sun in water. These a
re more relevant
trees for plantation near the building except north or over gardens or pa
rk spaces because in
winter the spaces beneath them becomes cold and wet. Comfort at diffe
rent seasons of the
year is major landscaping concern. Deciduous communities allow the gr
ound to warm early
in spring before the leaves form, but shade in and keep it cool in summer E
vergreen

52
9. ELECTIVE(landscape)
communities, on the other hand, block the sun all the year around.
Screening is a second
concern. Woody communities, effectively screen unpleasant views
, provide visual privacy
and control unwanted pedestrian traffic. Visual screening, howeve
r, requires more careful
planning. The critical factor in creating an effective screen is the
slight line, the lie of view
between an object and the observer. To be effective, the vegeta
tion used must be tall enough
to intercept this line at some point align its length. While this can be
relatively simple
consideration on a leveled site, on uneven topography the height
can change with distance
from the observer. If more distance placement is required, taller s
hrubs or trees are required.
Most buildings can also be classified as vertical, horizontal or cubi
cal. Where shape conflicts
with the lay of the land, building the building into level terrain, hor
izontal masses of plants
of decreasing height can be used to create a gradual transition.
Where shape complements
terrain, on the other hand, the transition is easier and plantings sh
ould reinforce the shape of
the building.
