THE STUDENTS INTEREST IN FOLLOWING PRACTICE

ROUTINE
AT PERBANAS INSTITUTE CHOIR EXTRACURRICULAR
 INTRODUCTION
Perbanas Institute Choir (PIC) established on September 18th 1987 under the name
of Paduan Suara Mahasiswa Perbanas. On February 2nd 2008, they changed the name become
Perbanas Institute Choir. In the last decade, PIC has given a proud achievement in the world of
choir in Indonesia. Perbanas Institute Choir (PIC) increasingly contributes for the nation in
international arena of choir competition. Some achievement that PIC has reached are:
• Gold Diploma V category, The best Conductor for Musica Religiosa category, and
Golden Diploma for Authentic Folksongs category in “IN… CANTO SUL GARDA” 8th
International Choir Competition Secular and Sacred Music Riva Del Garda, Italy, on October
2009.
• Golden Diploma Level 1 Mixed Choir, Golden Diploma Level 2 Folk songs choir, and Grand
Prix Nomination in “The 5th Rimini Italy International Choral Competition”, on October 6th
– 9th 2011.
• Gold for Musica sacra acapella and Gold Winner of category in Folksong acapella for choirs
in Gold for Adult choirs in “Bratislava Cantat I” on 2015.
But above all of that, they still got have a few problem inside. The problem is, there
so many members that rarely come to the practice routine even though they were active students
who had passed the selection. Also there still a lot of members who never come to the practice
routine even though they have followed the basic education (latihanalam) which is a main
requirements to become the official members of Perbanas Institute Choir (PIC). This report will
discuss about the students interest in following practice routine at Perbanas Institute Choir (PIC)
extracurricular.
 METHOD

The research used a quantitative methodology based on the

approach advocated by Williams (2009). This study was conducted
by questionnaire and investigated some opinions or suggestions
from PIC member against the practice routine. The questionnaire
used open questions, open ended questions, and yes/no questions
scales to assess social attitude (Jones 2007) to students interest in
following practice routine at Perbanas Institute Choir (PIC)
extracurricular. The survey was Perbanas Institute Choir (PIC)
member. A total of 20 questionnareswere distributed directly to
randomly selected member of Perbanas Institute Choir (PIC).
 RESULTS

There was an 100% respondend which is Perbanas

Institute Choir members who fills the questionnares. The result
clearly show that 85% of the responders interest to following the
practice routine and the 15% of responders says that they not
interesting to join the practice routine.
 CONCLUSION

We conclude that about 85% of PIC active members are

interested in attending PIC practice routine because they assume
PIC as a priority and assume that is their responsibility as an
active member. We also conclude that the reason of the PIC
active members not interest in following the practice routine is
because they have another activities besides PIC. In addition we
also concluded that to increase the interest of PIC active
members in following the practice routine is by change the time
of practice routine according to their spare time, then held the
practice routine on Thursday and Friday, also change the usual
practice method to fun but serious method.
 RECOMMENDATIONS

It’s highly recommended to the PIC management to adjust the

practice routine schedule based to the results of the
questionnaire. As:
• Changed the day of practice routine to Thursday and Friday at
4 - 7 pm according to their spare time
• Implementing a serious but fun practice method
• Start the practice routine on time
