 By five ex-IBM engineers
 In June 1970, they founded Systemanalyse und
Programmentwicklung ("System Analysis and Program
Development") company
 SAP stands for System, Andwen dungen,Produkte in
der Datenverarbeitung
 Systems, Applications, Products in Data
Processing
Releases
 R1 and R2 were the first releases and were mainly
mainframe applications
 R/2 was real time architecture

 Later R/3 with 3 servers

 End of 80s and early 90s marked SAP R/3

 R- real time data processing and R/3 was used for


client/server systems
Modules
 Functional divisions within the organisation was
divided into modules
 SAP initially started with Financial application
 Later Logistics and HR were added
 Only one IS in an enterprise-SAP
 Real events in the business initiate transactions
 For eg, accounting is done by events in sales and
production
