Basic concept of Organizational Change

Slow Organizational change:

This is introduced gradually, and is likely to meet with less resistance,
progress more smoothly and have a higher commitment from the people
involved.
Fast Organizational Change:
This is introduced suddenly, usually as part of a major strategic initiative,
and is likely to encounter significant resistance even if it is handled carefully.
However, some prescriptive change may be unavoidable, e.g. factory closure as
part of a cost-cutting project.
What is Strategic Change?
Strategic change is the proactive management of change in organisations to achieve
clearly identified strategic objectives. It may be undertaken using either
prescriptive or emergent strategic approaches. Because strategy is fundamentally
concerned with moving organisations forward, there will inevitably be change for
some people inside the organisation. However, strategic change is not just a casual
drift through time but a proactive search for new ways of working which everyone
will be required to adopt. Thus strategic change involves the implementation of
new strategies that involve substantive changes beyond the normal routines of the
organisation
Pressure points for strategic change

 Strategic change is primarily concerned with people and the tasks that they
perform in the organization. They undertake their work through formal
organisation structures, explored. Groups of like-minded people also form
informal organisation structures.
 Managing strategic change pursue particular common interests: sometimes
social groups, like the company sports club, sometimes commercial groupings,
such as a group seeking a minor change in working practices. All such groups
inevitably discuss, formally or informally, any new developments that affect
their lives
Pressure points for strategic change
Why Strategic Change is Important

Strategic change is important because it may involve major disruption and

people may resist its consequences. Even where change is readily accepted, it
will take time and careful thought. Strategic change carries important hidden
costs
