LOADERS
A machine or person that loads something.

EVOLUTION

Earlier 16h century 18th century

Sweden based VOLVO company introduced wheel loaders in 1954

* As wheel loader was quite late invented as

Compared to other equipments like excavators and graders.
* The series of steps was bit complex -

DIGGING
UNLOADING/LOA HAULING
DING

LEVELLING
AN ULTIMATE SOLUTION (WHEEL LOADER)

Replacing the complexities of using multiple equipments like cable

operated shovels, tractors, levellers etc, playing one of the major role
in today’s construction technology.

FUNCTIONS
*Digging of soil
*Dumping loaded bucket
*Loading dump truck
*Hauling material
PARTS

Three components for different

work

1 . TRACTOR
- Core structure
- All kinds of terrain

(a) Engine
(b) Rugged tire
(c) Cab

2. LOADER
- Attached in front
- Pick
- Smooth things

(a) General purpose bucket

(b) Forklift
PARTS OF LOADERS
3. BACKHOE
- Dig up hard
- Lift heavy loads (sewer box)

(a) Boom
(b) Stick
(c) Bucket

Backhoe When dig Need to move

Dig Pipe Fill with loader

STABILIZER

- Behind the rear wheels (2 legs)

- Crucial to backhoe
- Take brunt of the weight when hoe is digging
- Secure the tractor so that they wont slip

Two types of shoe

- Grouser shoe (better grip in dirt)
- Rubber padded shoe (pavement)
STABILIZER
OPERATION
1. LOADING THE BUCKET

- Bucket should be parallel to ground (cutting edge can skim can travel surface)
- Move the bucket forward with slow speed high power
- Raise the bucket (while penetrating)
- Upward direction (prevent spilling)

2. POSITIONING OF HAUL UNITS

- Maximum productivity
- Requirements

LOADING CONTROL
3. LOADING METHOD

Step 1. With the bucket lowered 1 to 2 inches off the ground, head the loader toward the bank
or stockpile in low gear.

Step 2. Move the loader into the stockpile and manipulate the lift and tilt con- troll levers,
simultaneously curling back the bucket and raising the boom slightly until the bucket is full and
completely rolled back. Maintain power without spinning the tires.

Step 3. Hold the bucket in the upright and curled position, and back away from the stockpile or
bank.

Step 4. Approach the haul unit at a 90° angle, lifting the bucket high enough to clear the haul
unit.

Step 5. Proceed slowly forward until the bucket is over the haul unit. Do not touch the haul unit
with the front tires.

Step 6. Dump the bucket by rolling the bucket slowly forward. Do not let the bucket hit the haul
unit.

Step 7. Back away from the haul unit while simultaneously lowering the boom and leveling the
bucket.
SAFETY -
- Operate wheel loaders carefully because they are easy to overturn.
- Do not extend any portion of your body between the cab and the lift arms. Operators
should adhere to the following safety practices:

• Block the bucket when working on the machine.

• Use caution when removing and replacing the lock rings.
• Do not work between the wheels and the frame while the engine is running.
• Use caution when operating close to the edge of a trench or when working under
overhangs created by digging into banks or stockpiles.
• Travel with the bucket at or below axle height.
• Do not carry or lift personnel in the bucket.
• Ground the bucket and set the parking brake before leaving the machine.
TYPES OF LOADERS

Mini loaders
• Great aid in construction and
landscape business.
• Less complication in
transportation due to smaller size
• Time saving job is associated with
the machine because you can
basically move around objects like
mud, rock or pellets from location
to another.
Front finish loaders

• Also known as bucket loader or scoop loader.

• The bucket is removable attachment so you can also use it as a forklift.
• Clamshell type of bucket that open to grab whatever you are working on in its
jaws.
• Loaders are used for snow removal, dirt removal, farming, and construction sites.
Skid loader
• Often referred as a skid steer loader.
• Heavy engine driven machine & has lift arms, lot of attachments can be fixed
• A skid loader is compact.
• It can turn around in an area irrespective of its length and hence can be used in
small spaces.
• Lift arms are attached to the sides & hence the lifting can be done evenly on
both sides.
Backhoe loader
• Loader in the body of a tractor, having bucket or shovel in the front &
little backhoe in the back,
• Fundamentally smaller in size & hence preferred to be used in small
construction sites.

LOADERS OVER MANUAL LABOUR
Quality improvement:
earth moving equipment as opposed to manual labour allows contractors to complete work with
minimal quality defects, shielding them from claims arising from poor workmanship.

Project efficiency- Earth moving equipment overcomes many of the limitations associated with
manual labour, from its inconsistency—due to weather, attendance, health, socio-economic
conditions and a variety of other factors—to the time it takes to complete projects

Cost savings and profitability

significantly reduce the cost of large-scale projects. It also makes it easier for the companies to
complete their projects within budget at a reduced overall cost.

Safety- Any construction site is the locus of multiple high-risk activities. There are obvious safety
concerns associated with workers operating on the ground, particularly within confined spaces
when heavy materials are being moved around. Using earth moving equipment for construction
activities helps mitigate or even prevent many of these risks.
LOADERS v s DOZERS
1. Loader is equipped with large 1. Dozers has two primary tools-the
square wide bucket in the front. front heavy metal blade and back
end ripper.
2. Loader has main function to scoop
or load material from the ground. 2. Dozers is designed to push or shove
materials on the ground such as
dirt,sand ,debris,etc;
3. Loaders do not have back end
ripper. 3. Dozer has a special function on its
back end ripper as well.

4. Loader is a claw like device. 4. Dozer is a crawler device.
