abstract
• Objective :
1. To determine the prevalence of obsessive compulsive
symptoms and obsessive –compulsive disorder in patients
with schizophrenia or related disorders or subjects at ultra
high risk for development of psychosis.
2. to determine the time of occurrence of obsessive –
compulsive symptoms related to the onset of fi rst
psychosis
• analyzed the onset of obsessive – compulsive symptoms
and its relation to the onset of fi rst episode psychosis.
• Relatively low prevalence rates of obsessive – compulsive
symptoms and obsessive – compulsive disorder in patients
with schizophrenia or related disorders; the rates are even
lower than known rates of obsessive – compulsive
symptoms and obsessive – compulsive disorder inthe
general population.

• co-occurrence of obsessive – compulsive
symptoms (OCS) and obsessive – compulsive
disorder (OCD) is frequently seen in patients
with schizophrenia and related disorders
• Recent studies reveal high co-morbidity rates
for OCS in schizophrenia patients
• The wide range of reported co-occurrence rates
of OCS in schizophrenia patients is probably
due to differences in defi nitions of obsessive –
compulsive features and sample characteristics
(i.e. Age of subjects, inpatient-outpatient, stage
of illness).
