case of APM failure (MDA logic change, Heading source change, required for RNP AR)

L-3 Communications Proprietary 4

APM/ASDB/ACD
 Definition
 Airplane Personality Module (APM) - The APM is used in place of program pin inputs to
provide system configuration for the TAWS portion of the T2CAS.
 The Aircraft Specific DataBase (ASDB: Aircraft Performance Information & Aircraft I/O
Configuration) and the Aircraft Configuration Data (ACD) are loaded into the APM at the
time of system installation in order to provide aircraft specific interface requirements for the
T2CAS System.
 IMPORTANT NOTE:
In case of an APM failure, new APM’s are not delivered preloaded with the ATR ASDB and
ACD configuration. In order for the T2CAS to operate properly the ATR ASDB and ACD
configuration must be loaded into any new APM. Thales/ACSS recommends that the customer
contacts the ACSS Order Administration department to order a copy of the ASDB and ACD
software. The ASDB and ACD software Media Part Numbers to order are listed in the table on the
previous slides.

 ASDB and ACD are uploaded into the APM by using a CF card inserted into the CF card slot on
the front panel of the T2CAS.

 Order a copy of the software by sending a PO directly to:

APM/ASDB/ACD
 Customized ACD settings using the EDDIT tool
 ACSS advises operators to consult with their Airworthiness Authorities before making
ACD setting changes to confirm their operational requirements (i.e. Customized Call out
settings,…)

 How to create a customized ACD file?

– See instruction on Section 6 of
the “T2CAS EDDIT Tool User Guide”
- ACSS Pub # 8002241-001
– Change the Part Number

L-3 Communications Proprietary 7

RCZ-852 Transponder – Tray Strap Board
 Definition
 The strap assembly (Figure 3-2), located on the back of each Mounting Tray must be
programmed to incorporate the aircraft Mode S address and desired options. Information for
programming the strap assembly is contained in Table 3-2 and Table 3-3 of the RCZ SDIM.
 The strap board is pre-programmed by ATR at the first delivery of the aircraft.
 If the aircraft change operator, the Mode S Address might need to be changed.
 See Section 3 paragraph 3-D of RCZ-852 transponder SDIM – ACSS Pub # A15-3851-001

L-3 Communications Proprietary 19

EDDIT Tool (con’t)
 How to install the EDDIT tool?
 Before installing EDDIT, all previous versions must be removed from the PC.
 Insert the installation CD into the PC and follow the instruction prompted.
 Once the install is completed, the EDDIT tool can be started by using the EDDIT shortcut now on
the desktop.
 Connect the RS-232 cable labeled “TAWS” to the PC and the ARINC 615 connector to the
T2CAS unit.
 IMPORTANT NOTE:
 RS-232 and USB Communication Port
– The RS-232 port must be designated COM1 or COM2 port by the PC in order for EDDIT to
operate correctly.
– The USB port that the adapter is connected to must be designated COM1 port by the PC in order
for EDDIT to operate correctly.
 Register the OCX file
– Install the msflxgrd.ocx file, which is available in the EDDIT installation directory.
– Using a Windows explorer, check the “C:\Windows\system32” directory to see if an
msflxgrd.ocx file already exists in the folder. If not, then copy the EDDIT provided msflxgrd.ocx
file to the “C:\Windows\system32” directory.
– Then perform the steps described in the “T2CAS EDDIT Customer Installation Description ” to
ensure the OCX file is properly registered.

T2CAS Part Number Verification
 Use the EDDIT tool to dump the Part Number (See Method 1 - Procedure on Appendix A of ACSS
VSB 9000000-34-6024)
 TCAS Software Part Number
 TAWS Software Part Number
 ASDB Software Part Number
 ACD Software Part Number
 APM Hardware Part Number
 Terrain & Obstacle Database Part Number

 IMPORTANT NOTE:
 The ASDB and ACD software Part Number to verify will be as follow (different than the ACD and
ASDB PN ordered which is the Media CF card with the SW included).
– ATR-500
– ACD PN: 9200001-06101
– ASDB PN: 9200000-03302
– ATR-600
– ACD PN: 9200001-06802 (CFG1) or 9200001-06803 (CFG2)
– ASDB PN: 9200000-04301 (CFG1) or 9200000-04302 (CFG2)
 After loading a new Terrain & Obstacle database, the Part Numbers can be verified on the
Navigation display without using the EDDIT tool. (via extended self test)

L-3 Communications Proprietary 42

Intruders shown on the wrong quadrant
 The bearing of an intruder could be incorrectly displayed if the power at one
port were artificially low due to:
 Damaged antenna or coax (contamination issues at the antenna RF connectors
level. i.e. water ingress, humidity, corrosion)
 Failure of the LRU input port
 “swapped” cables between the top and bottom antenna

 These bearing failures are usually undetected by BITE because they are usually the
result of a failed AC component or induced insertion loss in the coax cable assembly.

 Recommendation:
 Carefully inspect the RF connections at the antenna and if no obvious contamination
or corrosion issue is detected then replace the antenna. (See T2CAS SDIM #
8000451).

ATR Job Instruction Card (JIC)
 Definition
 The ATR Job Instruction Card (JIC) procedure is part of the maintenance from the ATR Aircraft
Maintenance Manual (AMM) 34-48-00.
 Objective
 Validate T2CAS TAWS I/O values using the ACSS EDDIT tool and the RS-232 cable.

 IMPORTANT NOTE:
 The following IO strings parameters can only be verified on an ATR42/72-500, and not on an
ATR42/72-600. These parameters do not exist or are digital on the ATR42/72-600.
– DI_ROLL_ANGLE_VALID_1;
– DI_MAGNETIC_HEADING_VALID_1;
– DI_RADIO_ALTITUDE_VALID_1;
– DI_BELOW_DECISION_HEIGHT;

 Please contact ATR technical Support for further information.
