GROUPS-MATHS TOURNAMENT

(GMT)
Why do we need GMT?

 To create an effective classroom environment.


 GMT structure embodies both competition and
cooperation that promotes peer group rewards.
 It uses the same teams , instructional format
and worksheet as STAD , but students play
academic games and tournament instead of
quizzes.
STEPS IN GMT

Step 1 : Review
 Teacher and students review the topics.
(Through discussion, question and answers)
EX : QUESTION 1

 Student 1 : Read the question


 Student 2 : Explain

 Student 3 : Write the answer

 Student 4 : Check the answer

Proceed to the next questions but take turn


with different roles.
Step 2 : Group Study

 Work in group of four(depend on no of students)


 Teacher guides the students to work together
 Students help each other in their group
 Teacher distributes worksheet to every student
and explains the step and function of the
method.
 Each student has each role
Step 3: Group-Maths-Tournament

 One student from each group makes up a


New group.

THE RULES OF GMT

 All Maths questions are put into


envelopes and the answer is provided for
checker only.
 The others will act as players.
 Students take turn to be checkers and
players. (a clockwise rotation)

 Does not answer this question
 Random draws one question from the
envelopes
 Read the question, and place it in the
middle of the table
 Look, check the answer and give scores
 Write the score in the player’s GMT score
sheet

 Listen, think, note, calculate and write the


answer in your GMT Score Sheet
Scores

 The first player wrote correct answer = 2 scores


 The next player wrote correct answer = 1 score
 The player wrote wrong answer = 0 score.
Bonus Point

 The highest scorer at each table receives = 20 point


 The second scorer at each table receives = 17 point
 The highest scorer at each table receives = 14 point
 The lowest scorer at each table receives = 10 point
Step 4 : Group recognition
 The student move back to their original groups
 Combine the bonus point to be a Group Point
 Three levels of recognition will be announce
