What is NLP?
Neuro Linguistic Programming

Is the study of how the interaction of your brain

(NEURO), your language (LINGUISTIC) and
body produces patterns of behaviour
(PROGRAMMING).
7
Neuro Linguistic Programming is like a
user’s manual for the brain.

Neuro Linguistic Programming is a

therapeutic, self-help technique that
focuses on behavior and language.
8
NLP is not therapy, nor is it about therapy. It
is about education and teaching people to
run their own brains.
- Richard Bandler

11
The Goals of NLP
To help the client understand that the way one
views the world affects how one operates in the
world.
It is necessary to change the thoughts and
behavior patterns that have not proven
beneficial in the past and that only serve to
block one’s healing and success.
12
In NLP

The conscious mind is the goal setter

The unconscious mind is the goal getter

13
Assumptions

14
“The map is not the territory.”
This means that each person has a different
reality in his mind (internal map) that doesn't match
the real reality. Each person has got his own belief
system)

“We see the world not as it is, but as we are”

– Albert Einstein

Behavior 17
“Behind every behavior lies a positive
intention”

People make choices that are the best ones

they consider possible for themselves.

18
“It’s not failure, only feedback.”

Every result gives you information.

19
“People already have all the resources
they need to accomplish whatever
they want.”

No body but you is capable of making

changes in your life.

20
“The meaning of communication is
the response you get.”
This means that effective
communication is your responsibility. So if
someone did not respond the way you
expected then you used the wrong method

21
USES OF NLP
1.PSYCHOTHERAPY:
In contrast to mainstream psychotherapy, NLP
does not concentrate on diagnosis, treatment
and assessment of mental and behavioral
disorders. Instead, it focuses on helping client
to overcome their own self perceived or
subjective problems.
22
USES OF NLP

2.INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS
AND PERSUASION:
The patterns have also been adapted for use
outside of psychotherapy including business
communication, management training, sales,
sports and interpersonal influence.

Techniques
24
Modeling

"Modeling" in NLP is the process of adopting the

behaviors, language, strategies and beliefs of another
person in order to 'build a model of what they do.

25
Rapport
This is done to achieve better communication and
responsiveness. NLP teaches 'mirroring' or matching
body language, posture, breathing, predicates and
voice tonality.
NLP rapport describe as a 'harmonious dance‘.
To establish rapport on the unconscious level and not
in conscious level.
26
Notice his posture then make a move to be
as close to it as possible without mimicking
him 100% (picture 1). Few seconds later
complete the move and take the same
position he is taking (picture 2 & 3).

27
Anchor

An anchor is the situation in which two separate

events get tied together in the person's mind so
that when one of the events occur the second
event is remembered or recalled automatically
by his subconscious mind.

28
Reframing

Reframing is the process of changing your

perception of a situation in such a way that you
see it positively rather than seeing it negatively.

29
Swish Pattern
The swish pattern is a process that is designed to
disrupt a pattern of thought from one that used to lead
to an unwanted behavior to one that leads to a desired
behavior.
This involves visualizing a 'cue' which leads into the
unwanted behavior and reprogramming the mind to
'switch' to a visualization of the desired outcome.

30
Criticism

NLP is a pseudoscience, lack of

scientific validation.
