INTRODUCTION

Pataliputra is the name of the ancient city that is today’s Patna. Pataliputra was the capital of
the first unified Indian kingdom and the great Magadhan Empire. The new Pataliputra
Museum will focus on the contributions from this area to the evolution of the history and
civilization of the Indian Subcontinent. The collections to be displayed in the new museum
include many great and important stone, bronze and terra-cotta sculptures and artefacts that
tell the stories of ancient Pataliputra and the lasting impact these cultures have had on the
region, India and the World. Stories of the Buddha, Mahavir, Ashoka and other great
political, literary and scientific world leaders from this period will be told in the new
museum.
The Department of Art, Culture and Youth (DACY) along with the Building Construction
Department (BCD) of the Government of the State of Bihar is planning to develop an iconic
museum in Patna, which stands on the site of the capital of India’s ancient Magadhan Empire,
Pataliputra. This new facility, the Bihar Museum, will focus on the contributions made by this
empire and the entire region of Bihar to the evolution of history and civilization in the Indian
subcontinent and throughout Asia. It will be developed on a 13.2 acre site located on Bailey
Road in Patna. Six spacious government bungalows, housing a university and a church
among others, spread over 13.2 acres would be demolished to build the museum.

AIM – To showcase the conserved relics and the remains of Patliputra which would show
magnificent contribution of Bihar to the evolution of Indian subcontinent.

 The project also aims at an effort to create an office environment that does not abuse
the urban space wherein an Office space in urban setup is rendered into on
absolutely introvert space in terms of social interaction within a community of the
