ALBERT
EINSTEIN
(14TH MARCH 1879-
18TH APRIL 1955)
A CURIOUS & INDEPENDENT
CHILD

“I have no special talents.

I am only passionately curious”
- EINSTEIN
HISTORY
 1st child of family

 Born on Friday, March 14, 1879

 Parents were Hermann & Pauline

Einstein
HERMANN & PAULINE EINSTEIN
HISTORY

 Lived in a small apartment at Ulm,

Germany

 He was Jew by birth but later became a

German Citizen
CHILDHOOD
 Quiet child

 “Dopey one”

 Always thinking & wandered in

thoughts
3 YR OLD EINSTEIN
CHILDHOOD
 His mother thought that he would
become a professor one day.

 Interested in music

 Started playing violin at the age of 6 yrs

CHILDHOOD
 When Albert was sick at 5 years, his father
gave him a COMPASS to play with.

 Albert shook the compass, turned it around

but the needle always pointed NORTH.

 This made a deep lasting impression on him.

COMPASS & MAGNET
HOW A COMPASS WORKS ?

 A compass points north because all

magnets have two poles, a NORTH POLE
and a SOUTH POLE, and the north pole of
one magnet is attracted to the south pole
of another magnet.
 The Earth is also a magnet, so the
north end of a compass magnet is
drawn to align with the Earth's
magnetic field.
 Because the Earth's
magnetic North Pole
attracts the "north" ends
of other magnets, it is
technically the "South
Pole" of our planet's
magnetic field.
 The magnetic North Pole isn't a
stationary point.

 As the Earth's magnetic field changes,

the magnetic North Pole moves.
Over the last century, it has shifted
more than 1,000 kilometers toward
Siberia, according to scientists at
Oregon State University.

MAGNETIC SUBSTANCES

 Substances that are attracted by a

magnet are known as MAGNETIC
SUBSTANCES.

Eg : Iron, Nickel, Cobalt

IRON NICKEL

NAILS FRIDGE MAGNETS
HISTORY

A Greek shepherd named Magnes

discovered magnets 4,000 years
ago in Magnesia, Greece.

He discovered a natural magnetic

rock, called the lodestone.
 In the form of a bar, it was used to
find directions on the earth, and so
the name lodestone, which means
the stone that leads.

Lodestone has a compound of

iron called magnetite.
NON-MAGNETIC SUBSTANCES

 Materials that are not attracted by

magnets are called non-magnetic
materials.

Examples: Rubber, plastic, feather,

paper, wood
