NATURAL RESOURCES
Natural Resources are materials or substances
occurring in nature which can be exploited for
economic gain.
They are resources which are present in nature
without actions of humankind.
Sunlight, water, wind, forests, fossil fuels , minerals
and metals are the main natural resources.
Some natural resources are found almost in all
places but, but some are only found in small
regions.
There is a depletion of natural resources at a
faster rate.
USAGE OF EARTH’S RESOURCES
Natural Resources are classified into Renewable and
Non Renewable Sources.
Fossil fuels, coal, oil are being used for power
generation and in automobiles.
Nuclear energy is being used for generating power
and making nuclear weapons.
Sunlight, wind, water are now being used as an
alternative to fossil fuels to save the environment .
Due to increase in the usage of fossil fuels and other
non renewable resources, global problems such as
pollution and depletion of resources have increased.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
USAGE OF EARTH’S RESOURCES
ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
Economic advantage Over usage of non renewable sources
leads to pollution
Development of industries
Non renewable sources such as fossil fuels
Helps in the construction of Multi Purpose take billions of years to form
projects
Renewable sources are unreliable sources
Growth in the economy of the country
Resources are scattered
Major support in the field of
automobiles, science, transportation, etc. Deforestation leads to destruction of
habitat of animals
Usage of Renewable Resources
decreases global problems such as Usage of renewable resources requires
pollution equipments which are expensive
BIOLOGICAL OR NATURAL
DISASTERS
Natural or Biological disaster is a major adverse
event resulting from natural processes of the Earth.
A natural disaster can cause loss of life or property
damage and economic damage.
An adverse event will not rise to the level of a natural
disaster if it occurs in an area without vulnerable
population.
Natural disasters have may benefits and disastrous
effect on a place.
Natural Disasters are classified into Earthquakes,
Tsunami, Flood, Volcanic Eruption, Storm, Cyclone, etc.
EARTHQUAKES AND TSUNAMI
An Earthquake is defined as a tremor below the surface
of the earth which causes the shaking of the crust.
A Tsunami is a large destructive ocean wave that can be
generated by any disturbance that rapidly displaces a
large volume of water, such as underwater earthquake,
meteorite impact and volcanic eruption.
Earthquakes are caused due to volcanic eruptions,
shaking of plate tectonics, folding and faulting and
other human activities.
Sumatra, Indonesia Earthquake in 26th December, 2004
was one of the most destructive tsunami and earthquake.
FLOODS AND DROUGHTS
Flood is an overflow of a large amount of water
beyond its normal limits, especially over what is
normally dry land and caused due to cyclones, storm or
heavy rainfall.
A drought is a period of below-average precipitation in
a given region, resulting in prolonged shortages in the
water supply and is caused due to lack of precipitation,
deforestation and global warming.
Great Chinese Famine (1958-1961) and 1931 Yellow
River Flood was one of the worst droughts and floods
respectively.
VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS
A Volcano is a vent in the earth’s crust from which
fiery hot magma erupts from the Earth’s interior.
Volcanic Eruption is a the sudden occurrence of a
violent discharge of steam, ash, lava and other
volcanic material.
Magma rises through cracks or weaknesses in the
Earth's crust due to heat and pressure inside the
earth. When this pressure is released, magma
explodes to the surface causing a volcanic eruption.
Mt. Tambora, Sumbawa Island, Indonesia Volcanic
Eruption is the most destructive disaster in history.

THANK YOU
I sincerely thank my Geography teacher, Jayamala Ma’am for giving me a
wonderful opportunity to make a presentation on the topic ‘Use of Natural
Resources and Biological Disasters’. I also thank my parents and my friends for
their support in this presentation.
Human resources are like natural resources; they're often buried deep. You have
to go looking for them; they're not just lying around on the surface.
