ROADMAP – SETTING UP OF

PERADA CENTRE OF
KNOWLEDGE AS A
CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
TRAINING CENTRE
INTRODUCTION
 PCK to set up nationwide construction training centres that
will build and develop the human resource competencies
required by the Malaysian Construction Industry Masterplan
mooted by CIDB

 Training needs become crucial as CIDB aspires World-Class


status for Malaysian Contractors seeking jobs overseas
MISSION

 To enhance Malaysian Construction standards


through accessible equal opportunities in technical
education and training. Among the principal functions
of the training institute:

1) To promote and provide technical training
tailored with industrial needs to school leavers
and un-accredited construction staff;
2) To upgrade the technical skills of the workforce
through continuing and education training;
3) To promote industry-based training and
technical skills;
4) To regulate and develop the certification and
standards of technical skills.
PCK Training Centres

In order to meet the goals and missions, a


comprehensive training scheme is to be
developed.
 Full-time institutional training courses targeted
for school leavers;
 Part-time technical training (short-term training)
 Specialist-based training by for on-the-Job
Training & apprenticeship (companies to consign
their machinery, equipment etc).
Training Centres : Challenges

 Limited human resources


 Declining rate of growth in skilled workforce
 Existing workers with lower education and skills
 Increasing global competitiveness
 Continual upgrading and restructuring of businesses
 Training centres need to be committed to the needs of the
Construction industry
 Demanding workplace conditions
 Lack of conversant with the use of information technology,
highly automated machinery
 Reluctance of school leavers and un-accredited
construction staff to enrol into technical training institutes.
Overcoming Challenges

 PCK Training Centres need to be recognised as


an established post-secondary technical
training centres i.e. an institution well-
accepted by industry, school leavers and
society.
