Project crashing methods

Why Crash?

a. The project is not going to be complete in

time
b. The output of the project has to be linked
with other project
c. The resources are not going to be available
after certain time
d. There is bonus for early completion or
penalty for late completion
• How can we crash ?
- By providing incentives to employees
- By using overtime
- By acquiring goods at higher cost
- By breaking down the activities
BUT CRASHING HAS LIMIT
Crashing tools
Assumptions:
•Crashing is not free of cost
•Crashing has limit
Tools
•Manual method
•Linear programming method
•Spread sheet methods
•PM Softwares

• The client is asking to complete the project in
15 days. There is no penalty upto 15 days. But
from 15 days onwards there is penalty of Rs
5000 per day and the project cannot be
delayed beyond 20 days
• What is the most optimal crash time you plan
if you like to take the project?
• Some crashing rules:
• Prepare the unit crash cost of all activities
• Start crashing the cheapest activity from
critical path
• Note the activities crashed and incremental
cost
• Keep updating the critical path diagram
• Some crashing rules:
• Two or more critical paths will come
• Then you have to crash one activity from each
route
• You can do the above step until the crash limit
is reached and then prepare the final crash
schedule
What is process mapping

Process mapping is a logical model of describing

the different phases of the project
Process mapping includes
• The description of project team
• Main phases
• Tasks and decisions to be made
• The standard for each task
Process map
• It is a four field mapping
Team members

Logical Tasks to Standards

Phases be performed for each
