Microbial Diversity
 Organisms can be found almost anywhere and can exist
in extreme condition.
 Organisms can be classified based on:
 Shape – coccus (cocci), bacillus (bacili), spirillum (spirilla)
 Habitat – temperature (psychrophiles, mesophiles, thermophiles) ,
pH, moisture/nutrient content (cyanobacteria)
 Metabolic capabilities – aerobic, anaerobic, facultative
