1.

The following four ticker tapes are obtained from four

different experiments to study motion using trolley. For
each case, calculate the average speed of the trolley. 𝒔
The ticker-timer makes 50 ticks per second. 𝒗=

2. Diagram 1 shows a tape chart which represents the
linear motion of a trolley when it is moving down a slope.
Each strip has 10 ticks and the ticker-timer makes 50
ticks per second. Determine:
(a) The average velocity of the first tape,
(b) The average velocity of the third tape.
(c) The corresponding change of velocity
(d) The time taken for the change of velocity.
(e) The acceleration of the trolley

3. Two tape charts in Diagram 2 and diagram 3 are obtained from
experiments to investigate the relationship between acceleration
and mass. Each strip has 5 ticks on it and the ticker-timer makes
50 ticks per second.

In each case, determine the acceleration of the trolley,

(a) 𝐚 = 𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝐜𝐦𝐬 𝟐

(b) 𝐚 = 𝟖𝟎𝟎 𝐜𝐦𝐬 𝟐
4. In an experiment to determine the acceleration due to gravity,
strips of ticker-tape with 2 ticks interval are cut and used to form
the tape chart in Diagram 4. the ticker-timer makes 50 ticks per
second. Calculate the acceleration due to gravity from the tape
chart.

5. The tape chart in Diagram 5 represents the motion of a trolley
on a rough surface when the trolley is given an initial velocity. Each
strip of the tape has 10ticks interval and the ticker-timer makes 50
ticks per second. The tape chart shows that the trolley is
undergoing uniform deceleration. Calculate the deceleration of the
trolley in ms-2

Inertia is tendency of an object to
maintain its state of rest or uniform
motion in a straight line

Newton’s 1st Law:

An object will remain at
rest or continue with a
constant speed in a
straight line, unless acted
on by an unbalanced force
(or external force)
