GUIDELINES FOR MARKING
SECTION A
• Pupils must answer the question
• Pupils are required to transfer the
information from the given text to another
which consists of five blanks.
• Award two marks if the information is
correctly selected, placed and spelt.
• Award one mark for answers with
punctuation, structural and/or spelling
error.

• Mark based on content and relevance of
language used.

• Full marks for this section is ten.

• No mark for distorted or no answers.

• Award two marks or one mark. No half


mark.

How to Grow a Tomato Plant

Planting tomatoes is easy. To grow a tomato plant, you will


need to purchase the seeds from online stores (1) or
nurseries. You can use egg cartons (2) or poly bags filled
with fertilised soil to sow the seeds. To care for the
seedlings, you will need to water twice daily (3) and keep
them in a shady place to avoid direct sunlight. When the
seedlings have become bigger, you will have to transfer
them to the garden (4) or into larger pots. If all goes well,
you will be harvesting ripe green and red (5) tomatoes
depending on the variety of the seeds that you sow.

TIPS ON SECTION C
 Teach pupils to choose only 1 essay to write on..
( whichever applicable )
 Teach them to read the instructions & understand.
 Teach them not to write with exceeding words.
The most is 110.
 Teach pupils to focus on the content. Preamble is
not needed.
 Teach the pupils to underline their verbs to
ensure their tense is consistent.
 Teach the pupils to apply the high frequency
words correctly to avoid structure / multiple errors
occur.

SAMPLE 1
• Last Sunday, Alif and his family went to Pangkor Island.
They had breakfast and went there by a speedboat. Along
the journey, Alif captured some photograph.

• Upon arrival, Alif and his father loaded their stuffs. while
his mother prepared some food and drinks. Alif’s mother
chose a place under a shady tree. After eating, Alif’s father
went fishing. Alif and his sister were playing in the water.

• All of sudden, Alif screamed for help. His father rushed


to him and bring him to the boat. Alif’s mother packed their
stuffs quickly. Alif was moaning in pain. His left foot was
bleeding profusely. They went home. Upon arrival, Alif’s
father checked his foot. Alif’s father noticed some scratch
and treated the wound.It was an unforgettable day for Alif.

Imran was a boy who had no pets. Until one
day, his father came back home with two rabbits
which were as white as snow. Imran was very
happy.
Imran built a wooden cage for his rabbits in his
backyard. His father showed him how to do it. Imran
fed his rabbits carrots everyday. He cared for them
very much.
Everyday, Imran trained his rabbits into doing
new tricks. One day, he heard of a rabbit show that
was being held. He took part in the competition
eagerly.
In the end, he and his rabbits won first prize.
He was very proud of his pets.

A family of three went to an island just off
the coast of their hometown. They used a motor –
powered boat loaded with things they needed.
They set up a picnic with a variety of food
and drinks. They chose a nice spot under a large,
shady tree.
When they finished eating, the father went
fishing as he sat on a rock. Meanwhile, his wife and
son were playing in the water. Suddenly, an accident
happened to his son.
His son was badly injured and had broken
his leg. They put a makeshift cast on his leg and
carried him onto the boat to the hospital.
