The Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro is a non-profit and private institution of Portugal.
Founded in 1941 by Prof. Doctor Francisco Gentil.
It's work focuses on health education and cancer prevention campaigns.
Its current headquarters are in Lisbon.
 The objectives of the league are:

• Disseminate information on cancer and promote health education;

•Contribute to the social support and humanization of patient care;
•Stimulate and support oncology training and research;
• Defend the rights of cancer patients and survivors.
And it's principles are:

• Sensitivity;
•Ethic;
•Respect;
•Commitment;
•Responsibility;
• Transparency.
 What is Cancer?

Cancer is a disease that corresponds to the abnormal growth of cells.

This growth causes tumors, but not all tumors are cancers, tumors can be:
• benign tumors (not cancer)
• malignant tumors (cancer)
 Cancer deaths
• In 2015 8.8 million people died of cancer worldwide.
• In 2016 the cancer caused 27,900 deaths in Portugal.
• Lung cancer was the one that caused the most deaths, followed by that of the colon and
rectum, the breast and the prostate.
• 1 in 4 deaths in Portugal is caused by cancer.
• It is thought that in the next 20 to 40 years the number of cancer deaths will rise to
16 million annually.
 The league helps many of these people, but there's more to being helped.
We can all help.
Just be careful with us and if possible inform others and also help them.
If you want to help the league you can go to it's website or when you see someone from the league in a
supermarket you go there and help.
Helping is easy and almost free, think about it before you say no to those who need it!
The Liga Portuguesa Contra 0 Cancro helped a person that I like very much.
Unfortunately she is not here anymore, but the league has helped her to
last a few more days and to smile and because of this I feel that they
deserve all the respect and help possible.
