– 3D line (to mark on the plate or to use
for shell frames)

• Limits
– Needed to limit the possibilities
to intersect with shapes far-away
from the wanted are.

!A 3D line gets dimension as type in the shape database

Modify Seams
• Option Modify>Seams

• Select in view Seam or Butt or
other hull line type
• Add value in shift direction
• Select “along …” for shift along
frames or waterlines or buttocks
shape. If not the direction will be
shifted orthogonal to the original
line.

! Shift direction is only used for the control points

Copy Seam & Butts (attach points)
• When a hull line is selected other then seam or butt it is necessary to
give the numbers of control point. With this number the control points
will be calculated by divided the original line in equal pieces. These
points will be use for projecting and fairing.
! In case of a seam or butt the original
input points will be used and this panel
will be skipped from the process.

! Please check the seam or butt number

before excepting the new line

At the end of the copy process you are

able to make changes and aspect the
seam or butt
Create shell plate
• Option Insert>Shell plate input
• Default plate number 50
• Thickness
• Material type

Please check the default Panel number in the System management application
Logistics>Automatic part numbering>other>Shell plate panel name
Calculation direction of shell plates
• The standard calculation direction of shell plates will be from aft butt
to fwd butt. With the function “reverse calc” switch you can calculate
from fwd butt to aft butt by set this to “on”.
• If you creating some plate input in an after ship, side or front view
(which has the highest frame number before the Reversed frame
number (before is in the direction of the after ship)) the system will
switch automatically this function to “on” in all other cases it will
switch to off.
• The best way to divine the calculate direction for shell plates is from
the side where the shape is less curved to the side where the curve is
stronger. In the most cases is this from “Reverse frame” to after or
from “Reverse frame” to for ship.
Create shell plate (Plate boundary)
• Minimal 3 boundary’s
• Aft or for butt can be empty
• Boundary’s are Seams, Butts or Knuckles
– (other hull line type are also possible)
• Select boundary starting with aft butt
– In view by crosshair
– In panel by entering Line type and number

! Extra Hull lines with Presentation>Hull lines

Create shell plate (Hints and limitations)

• After selecting the aft butt the toggle will move

automatically to fwd butt
• For reselecting a boundary in view activate the toggle of the
boundary first
• If a boundary exist out 2 separate lines the second toggle
have to be used
• Maximum lines per boundary is 2
• The second plate will get input from the previous
• The after butt is always situated nearly after ship or CL
• The Lower seam is always situated nearly CL (please take in
account that lower seam in top SB view can be upper seam)
Create shell plate (extra length)
• Over length per boundary
– 25 => text + marking line
– A => no text no marking line
– -A => only text
– E => only marking line
– 25/10 => over length on first & second boundary
Create shell plate (position)

• SB+PS reverse calculation direction
– 2 plates will be calculated (1 SB & 1 PS)
– The drawn plate is situated on PS
– Calculation direction from forward to aft butt

• SB+PS over CL
– 1 plates will be calculated crossing CL
– The lower seam is situated on PS side (but can be selected in SB)
– If the name and type of the lower and upper seam are the same the
plate is a mirror image.

! In all cases one DXF file will be made for each plate.
Create shell plate (Method of forming)
• Cold forming (default)
– Plate will be calculated smaller in length direction
– After pressing the plate it will be exact in length.

• Line heating (Have to be select each time)

– Plate will be calculated bigger in length direction
– After heating and cools down the plate will be exact in length.
Create shell plate
(Calculate according to the given lines)

• Lyn data
– These lines will be used to calculate the elongation, it is important
to divide these lines in equal section perpendicular to the seams.
– LYN direction (Development direction)
• L in length direction (normally frames will be used)
• B in breadth direction (normally buttocks will be used)
• H in height direction (normally waterlines will be used)
– Input parameters are
• FR DS WL BT AL FC SE ST (Hull shape line types)
• SG (step size)
• It is important to order the lines from aft butt to for butt.
• In case Hull lines are present in the drawing, lines can be select with the
crosshair (The toggle have to be set).

Options for Shell plate (1)
• Rolling line
– The give number will be the name of the rolling line. If
empty no rolling line will be present.
• Area limitation (These have to be set if the calculation of the
plate will be disturb by shape lines of the same group, f.i. multiple
intersection points)
• Shrinkage compensation
– Factor Actual dimension + shrinkage/ Actual dimension
1000+2/1000=1.002

– GR => no elongation
– MR => only centre elongation
– KR => only side elongation
Options for Shell plate (3)
• Mirror template
– This option “Mirror template” control the position of the
template plane to the opposite as normal. In normal
situation it will give the template outside of the plate. In
that case with the special outside marker.
– The template height can still be used to change the plane
of the templates.
– If you use the normal template but a negative height the
template plane will be moved to the outside direction of
the plate. The template marker will be the normal one.
– If you use the “Mirror template” option with a negative
height the template plane will be moved to the inside
direction of the plate. The template marker will be the
outside marker.
– In case of the outside template the given plate thickness
line will used for the shape of the template.

Part number on view

• Part number 3d top/side/frame

• 2d part number
If a plate definition is made in a 3d view no
plate number will be present in the top, side or
frame view. By using function:
View>Plate numbers
the number can be (re)position at these view.
Please use the 2d part number only for
indication purpose.
Modify Coded Parts

• Radius on plate corner

• Modification of plate contour
In some cases it is necessarily to change the developed
plate, this because the development of the plate is
restricted to maximum 8 boundary's and the raster to
calculate the elongation have to be divided well over
the total plate. With this tool and in combination with
the normal 2d drawing functions “To drawing mode”
plates can be modified or even combined to one plate.

Remarks
• Unfold in different direction, take care that you are
using the proper direction for the proper shape.
• Lyn data must intersect always lower and top
seam, it is not allowed to intersect with butt lines,
in that case use a second seam if possible.
• Please create your Seams and Butts in only one
block section database and create you plates in
then proper block section where you can find the
inner construction parts.
