ANGOLA

Located on the West coast of Southern Africa, Angola was under


colonial rule until November 11, 1975, date on which it became
an independent nation. It extends over an area of 1,246,700
Km2.

The Angolan population is equivalent to 0.39% of the total


world population.

The country is divided into 18 provinces, being Luanda the


capital.
Angola has an Atlantic Ocean coastline of 1,650 Km long.
Currency: Kwanza (Kz)

Languages: Portuguese is the official language

Natural resources: petroleum, diamonds, iron ore, phosphates,


copper, gold, uranium

Exports: oil, diamonds, refined petroleum products, gas, coffee

Imports: machinery, electrical equipment, vehicles and spare


parts, medicines, food, textiles and clothing

BAKONGO

The Kikongo-speaking Bakongo is made up of an estimated


15% of the Angolan population. In 1988 the Bakongo were the
third largest ethno linguistic group in Angola. Concentrated in
Uíge, Zaire, and Cabinda provinces.
The country’s highest peak is Mount Moco, 2,620 m high,
located in Huambo province.
