´ Construction is the most dangerous land-based work sector in

the world, after the fishing industry

´ The problem in construction sites is not that the hazards and

risks are unknown, it is that they are very difficult to control in a
constantly changing work environment

´ . This project brings into limelight the lack of safety aspects in

construction sites and remedies to those problems.

´ rROBLEM
Excavation was carried out for
the depth of more than 3 m
without any slope for a running
length of more than 50m
´ SOLUTION
Slope should be provided at
regular intervals to avoid
collapse and injuries

´ rROBLEM

No proper approach path to

the excavated area

´ SOLUTION

Approach path is a must for

excavated area to avoid
laborers from falling into
excavated area

´ rROBLEM
No precautionary measures
were taken to prevent the tree
from falling into the excavated
area.
´ SOLUTION
Either the tree should have
been cut or it should have been
strengthened

´ rROBLEM

TMT rods were not stacked and

were found lying on main
approach road to the site

´ SOLUTION

TMT rods should been stacked

properly and approach should
be devoid of any obstructions

´ rROBLEM

Debris were dumped within

the construction site

´ SOLUTION

Debris should be dumped in

proper landfills to avoid
breeding of mosquitoes

´ rROBLEM

Foot bearing plate was found

missing in scaffolding base

´ SOLUTION

Foot bearing plates should be

provided to prevent the
scaffolding collapse

´ rROBLEM
Laborers were found working
without helmets and safety
belts at heights more than 12m
´ SOLUTION
Helmets and safety belts are a
must while working at a height
of above 4m to avoid any
fatalities

´ rROBLEM

No walking platform was

used for working at heights

´ SOLUTION

A firm, well supported

walking platform should be
used while working at heights
to ensure safety

´ rROBLEM
rower distribution board
was found without any
insulation
´ SOLUTION
rower distribution boards
should be well insulated to
avoid electrocution

m

´ rROBLEMS
Worker was found without hand
gloves, safety helmets, safety
shoes
´ SOLUTION
Hand gloves, safety helmets and
safety shoes are must to
minimize the fatalities during
accidents

´ The construction site was not barricaded

´ No caution boards were found

´ No fire extinguishers were found

´ No first aid kit was available at any site

´ Unhygienic conditions in labour colony

´ No gumboot & hand gloves was used during

concreting

´ Although there was no recordable injuries or any fatalities in

the sites under study till date, there were many unsafe
practices being followed in the sites.
´ According to safety pyramid for every 300,000 recordable
unsafe practices there will be a probability of 1 fatality and
300 recordable injuries
´ So by avoiding unsafe practices we will be able reduce the
injuries and fatalities
