Honesty Testing

 The most common inquiry method


(and the most common of all
investigation techniques) is the
interview.

 Voice stress analysis and polygraphs
Pencil and Paper Test

 are objective tests that elicit


information about a person’s honesty
and personal code of ethics.
Graphology

 is the study of handwriting for the


purpose of character analysis.
Voice Stress Analysis

 Determineswhether a person is lying


or telling the truth by using
mechanical device connected to the
person.
Polygraphs

 measures pulse rate, blood


pressure, galvanic skin response
and respiration.
Interviewing

 Interviews help obtain:


 Information that establishes the
essential element of crime.
 Leads for developing cases and
gathering other evidence
 The cooperation of victims and
witnesses
 Information on the personal
backgrounds and motives of witnesses.
Characteristics of a Good
interview

 Sufficient length and depth to


uncover relevant facts.
 Should end on a positive note.
 Conducted as closely as possible to
the event in question.
 Must be objective.
 Gather information in a fair and
impartial manner.

 Know how to interact well with others


 These are people with whom others
are willing to share information
 Theydo not interrupt respondents
unnecessarily
 Displayinterest in the subject and in
what is being said.
