the point!
 Names of the hosts
 In a formal invitation, the name of the host(s) is spell
out. In an informal one, it’s permissible to use initials
or even nicknames.
 Phrasing the invitation
 “Request the pleasure of your company at…” is the
most formal style. Less formal are the phrase “invite(s)
you to…” or” cordially invites you to…
 The kind of event
 Is this a reception, buffet, etc.?
 Purpose the event
 An effective invitation includes a purpose. The purpose
is best communication by using a specific action or
function: “to meet, “ to celebrate,” “to commemorate,”
“to congratulate”, etc.
 Date
 Example: Saturday, January 20th or Saturday, the twentieth of
January
 Time
 6:00 to 08:30 p.m
 Place
 If the place is a familiar venue in town, it’s not necessary to
include the street address and city. However, if the venue has
many separate rooms, include the name of the room in which the
function will take place on the invitation.
 Example: Memorial Union, Room 109
 Reply instructions
 The letter “R.S.V.P” should be placed in the bottom left-hand
corner of the invitation, with the information about to whom to
contact below. The card should include an e-mail address on the
card.

 To communicate clothing requirements:
