INTRODUCTION

The respiratory system usually includes tubes, such as the bronchi, used to carry air
into the lungs, where gas exchange occurs. The diaphragm, like any muscle can
contract and relax. When the lungs relax when they have space, they expand to fill
with air and when they contract it is expelled. These breathing systems vary
according to the organism.

In humans and other mammals, the respiratory system consists of airways, lungs and
respiratory muscles that measure the movement of air both inside and outside the
body.

Within the alveolar system of the lungs, the oxygen and carbon dioxide molecules
are passively exchanged, by diffusion, between the gaseous environment and the
blood. Chus, the respiratory system facilitaste oxigenación with the concomitante
removal of carbon dioxide and other gases that are waste of metabolism of the
circulation.
THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

It is the body system that ensures

respiratory functions, through the
exchange of gases. It allows the air to
breathe in order to bring oxygen to the
organs and tissues and then eliminate
carbon dioxide.
What is the function of the
respiratory system?
Its mission is to capture oxygen
from the air and eliminate
carbon dioxide through
respiration
What is the breathing process?
This consists of two steps which are:
Inhalation: the process of bringing air to the lungs
Exhalation: is when we expel the air from the lungs.
Through this process of inhalation is that oxygen enters the body and exhalation helps
the body to expel carbon dioxide.
The parts of the respiratory system.
 Nasal pits: are two cavities that are inside the
nose, its function is to allow the entry of air,
which is moistened, filtered and heated
through structures called turbinates.
 Epiglottis: the structure of the body that hangs
down from the trachea, its function is to
prevent food from being swallowed from
entering the lungs.
 Larynx: is a mobile structure, which is part of
the airway, acting normally as a valve that
prevents the passage of foreign bodies to the
lower respiratory tract, allows the passage of
air from the nose to the trachea and from
there to the lungs it also allows the phonation
mechanism designed specifically for the
production of the voice
 Trachea: is the tube that connects
the nose and mouth with the
bronchi and lungs, its function is to
offer an open way to the outside
from the lungs.
 Bronchi: One of the two tubular
canals in which the trachea
bifurcates and through which the
air is introduced into the lungs, its
function is to drive the air from the
trachea to the bronchioles and
these to the alveoli.
 Bronchioles: small circular sacs
where oxygen is exchanged with
carbon dioxide in the blood.
 Lungs: are a pair of sacs (right and
left) that are found in the thoracic
cavity and that carry out the
function of blood oxygenation.
 Intercostal muscles: these move
the rib cage and allow breathing
because when the flexor muscles
contract they cause the
expiration and when contracting
the extensor muscles, the
inspiration.
 Diaphragm: is an elongated
muscle that separates the
thoracic cavity from the
abdominal cavity, is located
under the domed lungs and its
function is to intervene in
breathing.
How to take care of the respiratory
system

 No Smoking.
 Protect yourself from cold and rain by wearing and appropriate
clothing.
 Healthy eating.
 Avoid Humidity.
 Avoid exposure to chemicals that can damage the respiratory
system.
ANNEXED
 Three most common diseases of the respiratory system
 Acute bronchitis.
It is the swelling and inflamation of the main air ways that carry air to the lungs. It is swelling
narrow the respiratory tract which hinders breathing
 Whooping cough.
It is a hinghly contagious bacterial disease that causes a violent and uncontrollable cough that
can make breathing difficult. Often a deep convulsive sound is heard when the person tries to
inspire.
 EPOC (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
 It is a common lung disease, it is the cause of difficulty in breathing. One involves a prolonged
cough with me and anofher onvolves damage to the lung over time.
QUESTIONS
1) why the respiratory sytem is important?
It is important to keep us alive why the cell of our body need it as
source of energy and to grow.
2) why the parts of the respiratory system are important?
Because each one has a very important function and is indispensable
for life.
3) what care is important for the respiratory system?
Protect yourself from the cold and rain cover your nose and mouth
when going out when there is cold.
4) what are the portions by which the respiratory system is constituted?
Pulmonary conductive, intrapulmonary conductor and respiratory
portion.
5) how is the nose formed?
By bone, hard cartilage and soft cartilage.
6) what are the main bronchi?
The right and the left.
7) which are respiratory diseases?
They are usually caused by toxic subtances present in the environment.
8) what are some of the organs of the respiratory system?
Nose, mouth, trachea, pharynx, larynx and lung.
9) what are the nostrils?
Are two holes that communicate the outside with the nasal sales.
10) What are the lungs?
Are the organs in which the blood receives oxygen from the air and in turn
the blood is released from the carbón dioxide which passes into the air.
