The framework of Metropolitan Association of Upper Silesia cities cooperation is


determined by provisions of the statute.

Health and Science

HEALTH
Best hospitals, employing highly regarded
specialists, are situated in Metropolis cities. In
particular, cardiologic, casualty, oncological and
burns treatment departments gained
international recognition. There are nearly 14,000
hospital beds in the Metropolis. A large number of
concentrated nearby professional medical
facilities guarantees comprehensive medical care
on a European level.

Metropolis, educating 11% of national

CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT

(several of them belong to Industrial Heritage Route)
and other interrsting examples of architecture.

SPORT AND RECREATION


There are many opportunities to spend your leisure
time in an active way. Residents are provided with a
number of recreational indoor and outdoor facilities.
There are also many sports objects such as stadiums,
swimming pools, etc.

„Silesia” Metropolis is a very green area – 25% of its


the territory is covered by forests and other green

Entertainment and sports hall PODIUM
Total area of the facilities: 69 272.04 m2, useful area: 56 269.75 m2, total capacity: 531 345.08 m3. Area of fair
and exhibition facilities: 37 668 m2. Project site: 104 807 m2.
The PODIUM hall will operate as a sports centre. In addition, the PODIUM hall will be adjusted to organise various mass
events, thus it will also perform the functions of:
• an entertainment performance hall: the organisation of any national and international artistic and stage, social and political events;
• a sports and recreational centre: shows and other sports, entertainment and recreational events;
• an exhibition and fair centre;
• a publicly accessible recreational and commercial centre: outside sports functions.
GLIWICE

Vacant plots located only 2 km from the


biggest motorway hub in Poland A4/A1,
adjacent to commercial properties, next

The Modernization
of The Municipal Stadium
LOCATION: Olimpijska St. (Municipal Stadium with adjacent plots – Plot
1, 2, 3)

AREA: 147 472 sq.m

OWNER:
Plots 1 and 2 – Municipality of Bytom as managers of Ośrodek Sportu i
Rekreacji in Bytom.
Plot 3 – Municipality of Bytom

DESCRIPTION:
Plot 1 – Comprises an oval-shaped stadium with a typical embankment
construction and a heated field. There are 4000 seats in the stand – 3000 in the
main sector, 500 in the family sector and 500 for the visitors. The stadium is
equipped with a modern 1840 lx lighting system.
Plot 2 – comprises a 100m x 55m football pitch with artificial grass and full-size
goals surrounded with a 250 m concrete fence and two100 m x 60 m gravel
covered pitches with full size goals.
Plot 3 – Currently a dumping ground for mining waste. Access to the plot from
Piłkarska Street.

PURPOSE:
Plot 1 – Public utility with its basic function as a sports facility with additional
functions as an administration building or a media centre.
Plots 2 and 3 – No local spatial development plan for the areas so
a separate decision on the conditions of site development must be
obtained. There is a possibility of commercial investment location.

BYTOM
The development of
Kościuszki Square
LOCATION: Kościuszki Square

INVESTOR: Braaten+Pedersen Plus Partners

CONCEPT
 The main concept behind AGORA is to establish a roof-covered
cityscape including several new buildings on Kościuszki Square.
AGORA will restore the historic role of the square and at the same
time pave the way for future development and growth.
 The streets of the area are integrated in the ground-plan of AGORA to
allow a seamless flow of customers and inhabitants. There will be
continuous passage from the existing part of the city to the newly
created public spaces to ensure involvement.
 The aim of the investment is to regenerate the central quarter of
Bytom. It will play the role of catalyst attracting further investments to
the neighboring areas. It will also encourage inhabitants to return to the
city centre.

DESCRIPTION:
 AGORA Bytom is a complex, multi-functional investment originating
in the centre of Bytom, consisting of a modern commercial and
entertainment gallery and an office building with a car park.

 The estimated value of the investment is 90 milion Euros

 The opening of the facility is planned at the end of 2010

BYTOM
Krystyna Mineshaft

LOCATION: Zabrzańska St.

INVESTOR: Armada Development S.A.

CONCEPT:
The whole investment project in Bytom was divided into three phases:
Residential area 1. Commercial – 4 commercial project and adaptation of the historic
Krystyna Mineshaft,
2. Residential, multifamily development;
3. Construction of a full-size, 18-hole golf course along with apartment
development.

The investment is still in progress.

BYTOM
Bytom Ring Road

INVESTOR: City Bytom/ EU resources

DESCRIPTION:
The Project realization was divided into 3 stages:

 1st and 2nd stages were realized. The was 3,6 km of ring
road constructed in total. Investment expenditures of 133,7
mln PLN.

 The planned 3rd stage construction – investment


expenditures of 120 mln PLN including EU resources in
the amount of 65,7 mln PLN
It has been planned to build 2,2 km od roads, collective
roads for farmers, a tunnel under the junction and to
rebuild the drainage system and other basic infrastructure
facilities.

The investment is planned to be finished in 2011.


Arrangement of water and sewage management in
Dąbrowa Górnicza

The largest investment in the hundred years' history of the


city.

Total costs of the project will amount to 710 million PLN, over
282 million PLN for the first stage was acquired from the
Cohesion Fund of the European Union.

By 2015, the city will have performed 121 km of sanitary


sewage system, 65 km of drainage system and 62 km of water
supply system.

More than 16 thousand residents will be connected to the new


sanitary sewage system, over 200 streets of the city will be
renewed.

As a result of the investment 92 percent of local residents will


be connected directly to this new sanitary sewage and
wastewater treatment system.

Dąbrowa Górnicza is the third city in Poland, after the


Poznan and Warsaw, that realizes such a large investment
project, which also received significant EU funding.
DĄBROWA GÓRNICZA
Expansion of the POGORIA Summer and Water
Sport Center

With 4 beautiful, clear lakes of total area 860 ha, 4100 ha of


woodland and 180 ha of parkland, the city is a recreational
base for the Silesia Metropolis .

By September 2011 within the frame of this investment


project, the Pogoria lake and Zielona Park will have been
completely renewed.

Thanks to new sports facilities i.e. complex of sports courts, a


climbing wall, a skate park, children's playground, the pier
and the promenade on the bank of the lake, these beautiful
places in Dąbrowa will gain a new image.

The system of bike paths and lanes will connect Dąbrowa


with neighboring cities: Będzin, Siewierz and Sławków, being
partners in the project.
Cyclists will profit from the most attractive viewpoints.

Total costs of the project will amount to 24 million PLN, 5


million PLN was also acquired from the European Union
Fund.

DĄBROWA GÓRNICZA
RUDA ŚLĄSKA

THE INVESTMENT PROJECT OF THE CITY:


The reconstruction of the Jan Paweł II Square
for the municipal market in the city of Ruda
Śląska. The project embraces 3-stage-
reconstruction of the centre of the Nowy
Bytom district.

LOCATION:
the land is situated in Nowy Bytom district
on the Jan Paweł II Square.

PURPOSE:
The project includes creating the space of
the central area in the town, to perform new
service, commercial and recreational
functions.

• Two properties are located in the middle part of the city,
in a district close to Uroczysko street. These post-
industrial areas are adjacent to Siliesian Diametral

PIEKARY ŚLĄSKIE

Location:
Piekary Slaskie areas for investments covered by the
intended EkoPark Technology Industrial Park are located
in proximity to existing interchanges national and
provincial roads – including A1. In addition, the areas of
Park are located just 8 km from the existing A4
motorway and nerby (about 18 km) the International
Airport in Pyrzowice.

Purpose:
Sites are offered for the local spatial development plan

has good shape with no significant differences in altitude.

Location:

investors place on the border of two cities, Piekary Śląskie and
