How do Nuclear Powered Plant Work
Nuclear energy originates from the splitting of uranium
atoms – a process called fission. This generates heat to
produce steam, which is used by a turbine generator to
generate electricity.
Biography of James Hansen
American adjunct professor in the Department of
Earth and Environmental Sciences at Columbia
University. He is best known for his research
in climatology, his 1988 Congressional testimony
on climate change that helped raise broad
awareness ofglobal warming, and his advocacy of
action toavoid dangerous climate change.

James Hansen (adjunct professor in the Department of Earth and
Environmental Sciences at Columbia University, father of climate change
awareness)
“Nuclear power paves the only viable path forward on
climate change since it doesnt porduce emission” –Guardian
“To avoid the worst effects of climate change, including
continued sea level rise, the total loss of Arctic sea ice
and devastating effects on human societies and natural
ecosystems alike, rapid global decarbonisation is
needed.”
“Indeed, cutting down forests for bioenergy anddamming
rivers for hydropowers– both commonly counted as
renewable energy sources – can have terrible
environmental consequences.”
“Over the past 50 years, nuclear power stations –
by offsetting fossil fuel combustion – have avoided
the emission of an estimated 60bn tonnes of carbon
dioxide measured by energy it is produced.”
“For example, a build rate of 61 new reactors per
year could entirely replace current fossil fuel
electricity generation by 2050. Accounting for
increased global electricity demand driven by
population growth and development in poorer
countries.”
