• Sometimes it is the requirement of the project to apply different
overtime rate in addition to Regular overtime rate to a specific
resource on a specific task.
• Suppose that you have a work resource who has to work on
Task, and his regular rate is $100 per hour, and overtime rate is
$200 per hour.
• But on this specific Task you what pay same resource $400/H for
overtime work, and $100/H for regular work (this regular rate
can also be changed, if required).

1 Create a Work Resource “Ali” using resource sheet in view tab.
2 Standard Rate is $100/Hr and Overtime Rate is $200/Hr.
3 Base is Standard (40 Hrs/Week)

1 Create two tasks ‘A’ and ‘B’ each of 5 days each in Gantt Chart view.
2 Add ‘Work’, ‘Overtime Work’, ‘Overtime Cost’ and ‘Cost’ columns.
3 Apply dependencies between tasks.
4 Assign Resource ‘Ali’ to both tasks.

1 To use difference overtime rate, go to View tab, Other Views, More Views
and then select “Task Usage” view.
2 Add ‘Work’, ‘Overtime Work’, ‘Overtime Cost’ and ‘Cost’ Columns, if not
already displayed.
3 Change Timescale to “Weeks”

1 Add 8 Hour in “Overtime Work” column to both resources on both tasks in Task
Usage view.
2 When there was no overtime, task was completed in 5 days and it costs $ 4,000/-.
3 After addition of 8 Hr overtime task completes in 4 days but costs $ 4,800/-.
4 MS Project add the overtime work to total task work.

1 In View tab click Resource Sheet, double click resource “Ali”.
2 In the Resource Information click “Cost” tab.
3 In the ‘Cost rate table’, click ‘B’ tab.
4 Add “Overtime” (400/hr) rate different from mentioned in Resource Sheet.

1 In View tab click Other Views then More Views and select “Task Usage” View.
2 In Task Usage view, double click the task resource whose overtime rate is required to
be change.
3 In Assignment information, General Tab, Select Cost Rate table “B” and click OK.

1 Difference of overtime rate is shown in Overtime Cost column for the Single
Resource “Ali” working on two different tasks.

• 10 hours of daily work shown in Resource Usage view
– 8 Hr Standard Rate.
– 2 Hr Overtime Rate.
