TSL CLUBS SUBMISSION

For the Future Directions of Tasmanian Football

Steering committee
Melbourne – 23rd May 2018

Lead and They Will Follow. ... Dwight D. Eisenhower

PRESENTATION PLAN
The opportunity exists to create football best practice in Tasmania

• Our vision for Tasmanian talent pathways and TSL.

• Talent Pathways and how they integrate with TSL clubs.

• Future of Tasmanian State league.

• The future governance and funding of AFL Tasmania.

OUR VISION

• Invest in coaching resources to manage identified talent inclusive of increased education

programs for coaches in general.

• Work towards a full time Mariner program in TAC cup (2-3 years).

• At a minimum maintain the current TSL licence agreement whilst investigating the re-
introduction of a NW club (1-2 years).

• Pursue Tas VFL team or JV with North Melbourne (up to 3 years).

• Confirm aspiration of Tasmania having its own AFL club.

TALENT PATHWAYS
• 3 equally resourced talent centres (South, North, North West).

• Talent centres working hand in glove with TSL clubs.

• North West centre to be based at the club who wishes to join TSL.

• TSL clubs continue active involvement in identifying talent in zone.

• TSL clubs expand involvement in under age zone rep games.

• TSL clubs continue to provide elite senior football experience for Academy and Mariner squads.

• Talent steps align to AFL Master plan.

FUTURE OF THE TSL

• 2013 licence agreement extended 10 years inline with AFL representations made at
signing.

• NWC presence is not a stipulation of the TSL’s viability in line with other state leagues
essentially being suburban competitions.

• Current TSL is viable with clubs financially stable – travel is no issue.

• Draft picks is not a KPI of the TSL as the competition can only ripen the fruit, it has no
bearing on it being picked. Selection in AFL national academy and Allies is the true
indicator for TSL talent development.
FUTURE OF THE TSL – CONT.

• TSL Future Stars competition to be explored – as a stepping stone into mariners.

• Invest into the structures required to turn the Tasmanian system into football best
practice to grow football in 2018 and beyond.

• Tasmania needs stability, invest in the entire football program with TSL as the HUB not
just those with potential to play AFL, communicate the strategy and vision before
further changes.

• Slow this process down so that the TSL can work hand in glove with AFL to get this
right.
FUTURE GOVERNANCE AND FUNDING
• Adequate investment to deliver coaching and talent development programs.

• Invest to promote the game and brand development.

• In principle agreement to establish TSL steering committee.
