Cell-ebrating Cells- 3D Cell Model

 Challenge: The Smithsonian is adding a new exhibit on cells. Your team has been presented
with the task of constructing a 3D cell model that creatively and accurately represents the
structure of a plant cell. All organelles must be labeled with an explanation of their function.
Your project manager also needs the volume of your cell model and the measurements of your
organelles in millimeters.
 Criteria:
 All organelles are labeled with functions
 Technology utilized
 Model is 3D
 Must be a plant cell

 Constraints:
 Must be able to hang for display in hallway
 Must work in a group of 2-4 people
 Must only use material provided
 Must be completed during STEM Challenge Day
 Must calculate volume of plant cell model in cubic centimeters and convert it to cubic millimeters
 Materials: iPads (one per group), apps needed (uMake & Adobe Spark), student journal, pencil, felt, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, craft/fabric glue, rubber cement, shaped
pasta, ribbon/yarn, buttons, shoebox or other small display box
