him more than the quality of life displayed by a worshiper Worshipers are giver
Luke 7: 36- 50 ( read from the book)
It was all or nothing No one is to appear before the Lord empty handed (Exodus 23:15). Brokenness and tears are truly key elements in worship How excited are you about being with me again, when you enter the house of the Lord? Worshipers cannot go unnoticed They attract attention to themselves. Hence many have refrained from entering into the fullness of worship. They are afraid of what others may say about them. There are no formula for worship because worship is a function of the heart A worshiper will no doubt receive the defamation of some and the acclamation of other In 2 Samuel 6: 20 Because of Michal criticism of the way David chose to worship, she was barren for the rest of her life. Likewise if we become critical of genuine acts of worship, we are in danger of spiritual barrenness. But real worshipers are willing to pay the price. When we worship, God will respond! He will turn to us! He will speak to us, for He is eager to do so. Worshiping without Guilt Too often we allow feelings of guilt to rob us of the blessing of worship. For some of us condemnation has played a key role in keeping us from God’s best for our lives. Nothing will debilitate our witness more quickly and efficiently than condemnation. We must never allow sin to deter us from intimate fellowship with God. God does convict, but he never condemns. (John 8:11) Guilt and Condemnation are among the greatest hindrances in our worship services. The only time it is inappropriate to worship God with sin in our life is when we have no intention of changing. Hindering Attitudes in worship Pride – will rob us of the joy and release that come when we dance or lift our hands or bow in the presence of the Lord. It will incarcerate us in a self-conscious prison of spiritual bondage. The very Essence of worship is self-abasement and humility. Worship is humbling of self and the exalting of God. We tend to be more concerned about the opinions of other than we are about the Lord’s opinion. Never do anything because others are looking at you and never refrain from anything because others are looking at you. Reverse Hedonism: If it feels good do it . It’s your thing, do what you want to do. It we allow our worship to be controlled by our feelings, we will never gain victory in our Christian walk. We do not worship because we feel like it- we worship because Christ is worthy. Third faulty attitude in worship is that of presumption. We often expect God’s spirit of Blessing to be showered upon us without any sacrifice, investment of prayer, or humble repentance on our part. Fourth malady in worship is “spectatorism. None of us is a spectator but we are all participants in raising high His glorious praise. Worship is not performed by one party in behalf of another. No one can worship for another. Sentimentalism can also stymie worship. We often become sentimental in worship when we become more taken up with the music than the message of our songs. We must not be satisfied with an emotional response alone, we need a complete response of body, soul, and spirit. “When I am move by the voice of him that sings more than by the words sung, I confess to have sinned.” ( St. Augustine) The sixth wrong attitude is paying lip service. Nothing is more repugnant to the Lord than half-heartedness and hypocrisy. Finally the fear of Manipulation – I am not going to let nobody tell me what to do or hype me up. Whether or not the approach of the worship leader is irrelevant, God is worthy to be praise. Becoming a worshiper is a privilege and a challenge. It is the one thing that delights the father’s heart above all else.
