INTRODUCTION

 Introduction
 A Project by world bank to Develop Sri Lanka’s
Health sector to meet the objectives.

 Objective
 "to contribute to improvements in efficiency,
utilization, equity of access to, and quality of public
sector health services in Sri Lanka , with a particular
focus on district and provincial level services.”
COMPONENTS
 Support to district health authorities to improve
service delivery and outreach.
 Support to central programs and hospitals.

 Support to policy making, budget formulation,


and monitoring and evaluation.
 Project management.

Additional Segments:
 Tsunami Emergency Recovery.

 Avian Influenza
PROJECT COST & FINANCING

 The project cost at appraisal was US$72.6


million.
 Additional Financing of US$24.0 million was
approved to allow for implementation of
additional segments.
 The original Grant was Special Drawing Rights
(SDR) 40.2 million equivalent to US$60.0 million.
 Over its duration, the project made an exchange
rate gain of about US$ 6.00 million against the
SDR.
ACHIEVEMENT OF OBJECTIVES
 Nutrition programs were reviewed, with action
plans developed.
 93 clinical guidelines were developed.

 A national action plan for non-communicable


diseases prevention was developed .
 20 sentinel surveillance sites for Avian Influenza
were established, as well as 14 isolation units.
 Over 500 best practice immunization clinics were
established.

 Strengthening the health program delivery.
 Improving the capacity of Ministry of Health
centrally.
 Strengthening the public health system towards
results.
