INTRODUCTION:
Our study’s main interest is to investigate the effects of ionic radiation induced
mutagenesis on rice lines and the performances of these mutant lines under
water stress conditions. To establish comparisons in our study, we have decided
to compare the ionic radiation mutant rice lines with two other rice lines; first the
check variety and the second, are gamma radiation induced mutant lines.

PROBLEM STATEMENTS:
Ionic radiation was used to produce mutant rice lines which was hypothesized to
have higher genetic diversity. The increase of genetic diversity in mutant rice
lines were predicted to yield significant cultivar improvements and the research
assess any potential increase in performances of the rice lines under severe
water stress conditions.

OBJECTIVES:
1. To assess the morphological and agronomic trait improvements of mutant
rice lines ML-3, ML-10 and ML-30 under severe water stress conditions.
2. To assess the genetic diversity of the mutant rice lines via ISSR markers
