27 November 2014
 Carlos José Felbol Acuña
 (2008 – 2014) Science Bachelor
Degree.
 (2008 -2015 Expected) Mechanical
Engineering, Pontificia Universidad
Católica de Chile.
 (2014 – 2015 Expected) Master of
Science in Engineering.
 Test the technical and economic
feasibility of polygeneration with a
Linear Fresnel Collectors CSP plant.
 The polygeneration module will
include besides the typical power
generation cycle (electricity
output), a desalination module, a
solar cooling module with an
absorption chiller and a module to
generate heat for some industrial
process.
 The idea behind this is to compare
the functioning and cost between
the different options of
polygeneration plant, besides the
cost and functioning of every
module separately.
 2014 First Semester

The principal work was simulate the LFC plant Puerto

Errado 2, in the Solar Advisor Model (SAM) from NREL.
The figure below shows the results of anual energy
production and capacity factor for Puerto Errado 2 in the
original site (Murcia, Spain) and two sites in Chile:
Crucero, near to Calama in Antofagasta region and
Marimaura, near to Linares in Maule region.

 2014 Second Semester and Next Year

The topics to work henceforth deals mainly about

test the different options and collect information
from several fonts.
Then all the modules and the options for the
polygeneration system will be simulated in TRNSYS
17, to posteriorly do an analysis and can compare
the different options presented.
The next slide shows an example model for a
simulation on TRNSYS 17 on development, that
considered a solar cooling module with an
absorption chiller. This is only an example of the
type of simulations to develop henceforth.
 En este punto se considera diversas
variantes que pueden tener
algunos componentes del sistema.
