The iconic and reputed Tamil University was established by the State Government of Tamil Nadu in
Thanjavur in the year 1981.

With the inception of Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), a new era started at Tamil University. This
University is serving as a cultural causeway between Tamil Nadu and people of Tamil origin living outside
Tamil Nadu and abroad by conducting research and academic studies.

The University offers the postgraduate, graduate, post-graduate diploma and certificate courses in these
study areas and has also developed a full-fledged ICT (Information and Communication Technology)
enabled cell for online and distance education.

Convenient Admission Procedure
A student only needs to upload the eligibility-related documents online, on the Tamil University website,
pay the fee, and wait for approval. No physical presence or visit to the University campus is required to
get admission in the ICT enabled TU courses. The examinations are also conducted online and a student
can appear for them at any location ( a computer and an internet connection will be required). Degrees
are delivered online as well. The admission, learning and degree attainment process is highly
sophisticated, fast and hassle-free.
