INTRODUCTION

Understanding The Convention Center & Exhibition center

• Convention Centers are a platform in the society for holding national and
international conferences, seminars, business meets and so on.
• These facilities can be used for holding big or small political and social meets as
well as social gatherings.
• Convention centres typically have at least one auditorium and may also
contain concert halls, lecture halls, meeting rooms, and conference rooms.
• Exhibition hall is the large area hall to display pictures, sculptures, or other
objects of interest that people notice or admire.
The MICE Industry

• MICE is a type of business tourism in which large groups usually planned well in
advance , are brought together for a particular purpose.
• MICE is acronym for the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibition
tourism segment.
• MICE are today becoming an important segment of the tourism industry. With
the opening up of India’s economy, MICE tourism is likely to grow further in the
future.
Need of convention centre

• Varanasi is a global religious city, so there are needs to hold religious events. It is highly
probable that convention centers will be used for these.
• There is a demand for facilities for large-scale Meetings and Conventions with 100 to
over 1,000 participants in Varanasi. As a large scale hall is not available, the demand is
high. “Incentive travel” also has a potential as Varanasi is a tourist city.
• In India there is a need to use convention centers for wedding ceremonies. Since
wedding ceremonies are large-scale events and are held for several days, they are
important demands in ensuring high occupancy rates of facilities.
• The strength of Varanasi is that BHU is located in the city. BHU medical schools are
well known throughout India, and university researchers have needs to hold academic
conferences and due to lack of convention center they are forced to organize the
conference in 4 star hotels like Ramada.
