TOTAL POWER

FAILURE &
RESTORATION
PRESENTED BY
GROUP-1 (Mech.Oprn)
What is Total Power failure of Power Plant??
Ans: A total power outage (also called a power
blackout, or a power failure) is a short- or long-term
loss of the electric power of an power plant.

When a Total Power failure can take place ????

a) All outgoing 400 KV/220 KV, whatever the case may
be, trips on feeder protections.
b) 400 KV/220 KV system trips on protections.
During Total Power failure following operations to be ensured(CCR END):
1.Ensure the Starting of DC Lube oil pump, DC Seal oil pump (Air side) & DC JOP.
2. Ensure the Switching on DC lighting.
3. Open VAC Breaker(When turbine speed reaches less than 2000 rpm)
4. Ensure the Starting of Diesel Generator Set to energize Emergency Bus if not start DG set
manually and charge Emergency Bus.
5. Changeover AC source supply of Unit (ODA, ODB & ODC) & Switchyard DC (ODA & ODB)
buses from PMCC to EMG-PMCC Buses.
6. Ensure that APH is rotating, if not, start manual rotation.
7. Isolate Gland Steam Supply Valve.
8. Ensure MSV, CRV,CV,HP-LP BYPASS & spray line valves are all closed.
9. All Drains and Extraction lines are isolated.
During Total Power failure following operations to be ensured(GCR END):
1.Inform SLDC and find out the reason for Total Failure(if it is internal fault or external fault.)
2.Ensure all GCB is open and switch off all outgoing feeders and transformers.
3. Switch Off 6.6KV incomer CB of ST1 and ST2 & 415V incomers of switchyard MCC.
4. 5. Ask SLDC for restoration of Power.
5. On getting message from SLDC about power restoration, inform to SCE.
6. Reset all relays and Check the feeder/bay locally which will be switch on to restore power.
7. On extension of the line check line PT voltage of all three phases of the line and charge Bus.
NORMALISATION OF ELECTRICAL SUPPLY:
1. Charge Station transformer 1 & 2 and then 6.6 KV Station Bus OSA1, OSA2,OSB1, OSB2.
2. Charge Power House 6.6KV Station Bus 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B from Control Room.
3. Charge 6.6KV Unit Bus 1SA, 1SB, 2SA, 2SB from Control Room.
4. Charge 415V Station and Unit Bus from Control Room.
5. Charge MLDB, Vent MCC and ensure starting of Central AC system.
6. Charge Emergency MCC from unit bus and Stop DG set if it is running.
7. Charge and normalize WTP 6.6 KV Bus.
8. Charge 415V C.W. Bus System and Air Compressor MCC.
9. Charge C.T. LT MCC, AW/FF Raw Water M.C.C.

Note: It is essential to
ensure that always torch
lights are readily available
to meet such
emergencies.

Inform Shift Charge Engineer for starting the auxiliaries.

415V SYSTEM NORMALISATION:
COLD START UP PRE LIGHT UP MAJOR STEPS
