SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEM FOR IRRIGATION SYSTEM

DEVELOPMENT IN INDONESIA
INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION PROGRAM
BY KASDI DARIN F

T O K Y O T E C H S U M M E R P R O G R A M 2 0 1 7
BACKGROUND
• Irrigation is one of the critical factor determining food and
agricultural production
• There is 62.5 million hectares of agricultural land in
Indonesia consist of 8.1 million hectares of rice field and
54.4 hectares of dry land (Center of Statistic Agency, 2014)
• Among the 8.1 million hectares of rice field, about 4.1
hectares are irrigated rice
• For increasing food and agricultural production, there will
be very urgent to expand irrigation areas
• The irrigation systems that have been developed include
furrow, sprinkler, drip irrigation systems using gravity and
pumping from surface and groundwater
• The use of solar cells power system for irrigation purposes
is still very limited
• Collaboration project on the use of solar energy for
irrigation need to be developed
OBJECTIVES
To expand the effective and efficient irrigation system using solar energy for food
01 and agriculture production in Indonesia

To develop a local specific solar energy system for increasing food and
02 agricultural products production

To encourage local farmers for using solar energy for their irrigation system
03
To establish good relations between Japan and Indonesia and to increase
04 potential market for selling technologies
