TANJONG RHU
Present time
• It is the day after his
mothe’s burial and Mr Li is
alone in his office
• He feels that there is
something he has left
undone
• He pick up a pair of
binoculars to see the ships
in the harbour.looking at
the binoculars, he gets
swept away by memories
Flash back
• He recalla the the time he gave
the binoculars to his mother
• He especially remembers the
time she come to his office and
used the binoculars.she claimed
to be able to see Tanjong Rhu, the
place they used to live when they
were young family
• Mr Li was disinterested to hear
his mother’s stories.
• He was also annoyed that Ah-Ma
seemed to live in the past instead
enjoying the present
Present time
• Mr LI regrets not listening to
his mother when she was
alive.
• He begins toyearn for
Tanjong Rhu too.

• Mr Li then recalls Ah-Ma very
ill in the hospital.Mr Li visited
her on her deathbed
• Before she drew her last
breath,she talked about the
key s to the drawer of the
altar, hidden in a special place.
• The altar was a very sacred
place for Ah Ma.It was Where
she permormed her prayers
daily.
Present time
• Mr Li realises then that he has
to do one last thing for his
mother-to take care of the
altar
• He rushes home and goes into
the altar room
• He thinks about the things he
needs to do,such as lighting
the joss sticks,only to realise
that the drawer is locked along
with other important things.
Present time
• Mr Li does not know where
the key is so all he could do is
talk to his mother
• He begins to tell his mother
that he finally saw Tanjong
Rhu today.He now
understands his mother’s
feelings.
• However, he soon feels
awkward talking to the
photograph, so he walks out of
the altar room.
