    On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked two planes and crashed them into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. The first plane hit at 8:46 am, trapping over 950 people inside the tower. A second plane hit the other tower at 9:50 am, trapping over 450 more. The second tower collapsed at 10:23 am after the intense heat inside caused structural failure. Both towers collapsed within hours, cloaking lower Manhattan in a cloud of debris and resulting in thousands of deaths.
