Abstract, Mangroves forest plays an important role in global climate change management. In order to gain and build a solid understanding of the global carbon budget and
ultimately the effects of diminishing mangrove forests on climate change, very crucial to obtain an assessment and quantification of the spatial distribution of mangrove
forest for each country. The objective of this research is to identify spatial distribution of mangrove forest based on ALOS PALSAR mosaic 25m-resolution in overall
Southeast Asia. Methodology consists collecting of ALOS PALSAR mosaic 25m-resolution image of overall Southeast Asia region, pre-processing include converting DN to
NRCS and filtering, collecting regions of interest of mangrove forest in Southeast Asia, plotting, characterization and classification. The result of this research, we found
spatial distribution of mangrove forest based on ALOS PALSAR 25m-resolution in overall Southeast Asia. Total large area of mangrove forest in overall Southeast Asia is
around 5 million ha.
• Mangrove forests provide important products and services. They also provide
for the most intense coastal carbon sinks in the world and play a growing and
central role in the global carbon cycles.
• Very crucial to obtain an assessment and quantification of the spatial
distribution of mangrove forest biomass. As most countries do not have
sufficient information to include mangroves in their national reporting to the
United Nations (Daniel et al., 2015).
• ALOS PALSAR provides more information on the three dimensional structure
and biomass of woody vegetation (Lucas et al., 2007) also ALOS PALSAR
mosaic 25m resolution is available to use for regional/global observation.

Methodology
Results
Based on characterization, we create a rule criteria for classification of mangrove
areas. Spatial distribution of mangrove forest in overall Southeast Asia based on ALOS
PALSAR mosaic 25m-resolution can be seen on figure 3.
